Never Again Ford! 2022 Maverick needs a new transmission

So only check fluid when hot and should be up to the plug. How about when doing a fluid change with room temperature new fluid? Where should the fill line be then?

Wow - That's a long wait.
My experience was the opposite.

I was going out to do some errands and stopped at a dealer in Flagstaff because I'd seen some Mavericks, and the owners I talked to all said they loved the truck.

I used Ford's build a Mav online with everything I wanted, but it looked like no one had the config I was looking for. I test drove an XLT Hybrid AWD and liked it, but I wanted the XL.

I showed the printout to the sales guy after the test drive.
It took him about an hour to find exactly what I wanted, but it had just landed that day at another dealer, 100 miles away, so I did a deposit over the phone to hold it sight unseen when he called about the find. The salesman had it on his lot the next day.

Picked it up the day after that when my wife got back from a trip.
First test drive to drive home ~ 48 hours.

It's swap until you drop. In the old days we replaced vaccum tubes in TV's, now they replaced circuit boards or just replace the TV. In computers we replaced integrated chips on circuit boards, now the modules just get replaced. Lack of expertise and spiraling labor costs have changed the world.

In 1980 I bought a brand new 19" color TV for $329. I can buy a 55" for $99. Why would anyone pay hundreds to repair a $99 TV?

I’m starting to think the main weakness of the 8f35 is just fluid temperatures. I imagine tow package trucks or other cooler equipped ones will last a lot longer. Did OP have a base model? Like obviously it’s a cost cut, cleverly packaged design, but it’s not inherently too terrible. The HF45 by comparison has much less internal work to do so it doesn’t run as hot, nor does it have as many failure points. Not to say it has none though…

Off the top of my head, VW's transmissions, and by extension Audis, all mandate filter replacement. This played a major role in me getting my GLI instead of a Forte GT. Nissan also allows for filter changes on their CVTs.

"things fail eventually" is a strawman argument. I never said things shouldnt ever fail. All mechanical components fail eventually. However, designs that intentionally lead to short service lives are a BAD THING. The lifespan of these transmissions is dramatically shortened (but still out of the warranty period) by the failure to include something as basic as a filter. Nissan got around this by using an external filter that is trivial to change while maintaining the tight packaging required of a modern transverse transmission.

Yes. Nissan has external mounted filter element and Toyota has in-pan type filter. Nissan got smart with the external mounting on the newer generation of cvts versus the idiotic valve body mounted ones on the older Jatco designs. I can write an epic horror novel on that Jatco filter. And Nissan's external filter is a smart idea for aiding the life of a metal belt drive CVT. At least now the filter gets changed but it's still a metal belt driven CVT. Yes...I'm not a fan but that's just me speaking for only myself.

Only the design engineer can truthfully say that and he'd need to be seated in an electric chair before you'd get that admission. Or...are you secretly one of the design engineers? That'd be awesome!!! If not, hey, we're all entitled to our own thoughts. That's what's great about being human.
Anyway, since you dislike that transmission, when are you planning to replace your Mav and with what? Not insinuating anything at all. Just my curiosity asking for my own gain.

The liquidator, Henry Leland, convinced the shareholders that with his engine (passed on previously by Oldsmobile), the pieces could make a salable car. They named it "Cadillac" . . .

In spite of serial business failures and being more interested in racing than the companies he was supposed to run, Henry Ford was able to get yet another round of suckers investors to finance the Ford Motor Company.

Cadillac would be acquired by GM, and Leland's continued involvement was one of the investor conditions when Chevrolet acquired GM.

But the GM chair was a pacifist, so Leland left when he wasn't allowed to sell motors to the army during WWI, and he founded Lincoln--which would later be acquired by Ford Motor Company.

In my case, all service done at Ford dealer so that couldn’t be an excuse.

It was a ford dealer that stripped the corners off the oil plug on my E-150. Unfortunately, I don't know which one. But I no longer allow even dealers to change my oil!

Just found out from Autonation Ford here in Mobile that my 2022 Maverick needs a new transmission for over $10,000. Apparently one of the gears has gone and there's metal in the transmission fluid. Warranty has expired and I still owe money on that car. I hope people read this and bypass buying any Ford product.

yep that's exactly why I bought the extended warrranty - but..you should be able to procure a used trans in some newer wrecked truck that would be considerably cheaper than...$10K?! WTH? That's a ridiculous price.

not uncommon, I got mine in oct '22 and have a few payments left at 2.75 percent interest, 48 months, no big deal.

I got mine feb '22 and have 7 more payments on my 60 month 2.25% interest loan!!!

None of those cars had transmission failures. My last car was a VW Tiguan with 130K miles and absolutely no issues. Tnx for noting the model of the transmission.

Had the opposite experience with VW. Bought a brand new 2018 VW Passat in 2019. Just two months after the warranty expired the transmission went out at 58k miles. It was past the warranty. I had all my service done at VW but fortunately they took over 50% of the replacement cost. I was still $ 2700.00 out of pocket.
Not sure if we have bad luck in our family by my wife's 2019 Cadillac XT has the same issue with her transmission at 60000 miles. Fortunately, GM covered it 100%. A couple of month later she had an issue with her engine and we would have had to spent about 3500.00 to get it fixes. Got rid of that POS and got her a 2025 Maverick Hybrid as well. Hope to have more luck with these.

pretty exciting, isn't it? A few more payments and it's all yours! I haven't had a new vehicle in decades, I don't miss the every other month 'fix it' bills and problems on my old Lincoln Aviator...that got a lofty 12 mpg. The Mav has been a life changer :}

What was really exciting was when I decided to buy maverick and set aside $25k to pay cash putting the $$ into Ford stock at $13.20/sh then selling F stock at $22.23 (it did go to $24+ so I lost that.). Then kept $$ in other stock and financed 100% of lariat first edition hybrid at out-the-door purchase price. Paid cash for my mav hybrid xlt that came in Oct 22 and now have enough in (mav funded portion of) brokerage account to buy another one!!!!
