Never Again Ford! 2022 Maverick needs a new transmission

Just found out from Autonation Ford here in Mobile that my 2022 Maverick needs a new transmission for over $10,000. Apparently one of the gears has gone and there's metal in the transmission fluid. Warranty has expired and I still owe money on that car. I hope people read this and bypass buying any Ford product.

That is not good, sorry about that. I would take it to an independent transmission shop and get their opinion. You could go with a low miles used 8F35 Transmission a lot of wrecked Mavs out there. And a question: how many miles are on it, and did you ever change your transmission fluid?

Why not? If you got a low interest rate and you are earning more from investments it’s silly not to.

How many miles on the truck?
Did you get 2nd and 3rd option to replacing the transmission at the dealer? AA Transmission or other shops may offer rebuild or used transmission options that are much more affordable.

This is 2026, so you could still be making payments on a 48 month loan if you took delivery of it in October 2022. And OP should check eBay Motors and see what transmissions they have to offer. 10K is nuts.

60 months on a 22 puts you into 2027. If it was a 22 that was delivered toward the end of the model year still a year left on the payments.

So sorry to hear about your transmission troubles. You're not alone...

A similar thing happened to my brother-in-law, but with a Bronco. He had nothing but problems with the transmission after the first year. It finally gave up the ghost. Other than that, he loved the Bronco and ended up buying another one.

Ford took good care of him.

Full disclosure about my brother-in law's driving style: he isn't a "smooth and easy" type of driver. I think that may have had something to do with the failure.

Side note: the hybrid I bought would probably drive him nuts. My style of driving is "Easy Does It" which seems well suited to driving a hybrid.

In August of 2023 the OP brought his used 2022 in with 8,000 miles on it. In October of 2025 he had 58,000 miles on it.
Being used, you never know how the truck was treated by the previous owner or what hack job mods were made.
