I have managed to drain the battery on my Civic and it needs to be boosted. I hesitate to use the Mav Hybrid as I do not want to risk damaging the electronics. The owners manual doesn't explicit say NOT to use the Mav Hybrid as the booster vehicle but Ford does have a separate entry for jump starting the Mav hybrid (and it sounds identical as in the "olden days" regarding the sequence of connecting and disconnecting the jumper cables, etc.).
My husband and I are frequently out in the tulies, and we have come across and given the occasional jump start here and there.
I have ordered a TYPE S 8600mAh Jump Starter for future use and will call AAA roadside service for the Civic (because we are not out in the middle of nowhere) but was curious if anyone has given a jump start using the Mav Hybrid as the booster vehicle without causing a great cataclysmic event to their hybrid's electronics or any other unwanted/unintended consequence/s.
Thanks!

It'll be fine. Just don't do what someone did when I jumped them from my Prius and spark the cables together. It didn't hurt anything, but the computer wasn't happy about it, I doubt the Maverick would be either.

Jump points can be at the battery under the back seat passenger side, or driver side under the hood, positive is under a red plastic flap, negative is on the other side of the black box the flap is on, on the fender, looks like a tower nut.

If you can afford it this is definitely a good choice👇👇
After I a bought lithium-ion jump pack. That needs to be charged occasionally. I found out about.
Maintenance free super capacitor jump pack.
My neighbor bought one to use on a 1987 Mercedes his wife won't sell. As long as there's a breath of power in the vehicles, battery you may have to wait 20 minutes but it'll start the car.
$109

Yes, you can use your hybrid to jump a small car. I've used my C-Max a few times.

However, no I just carry a jump box in all my vehicles for both me and if someone else needs a jump. Lighter than jumper cables and will not cause any computer issue from sudden voltage drop.

Yes, I've ordered a jump box from Costco online. =D

Thank you for the marked up picture. (y) In addition to be lighter, I like the idea that jumper boxes are much more compact and easier to store compared to cables. The cables add a ton of weight to our auto kits.

The difference between my jump pack and my jumper cables is roughly a pound. I carry both so it really doesn't save me anything 🤣🤣

That all being said, I've got 25 ft long jumper cables, that were custom made for me. They weigh way a little bit more.

Not sure on the Type S model, but I suggest you check whether the jump pack has a "force-start" or "boost" mode. That function bypasses the detection requirement and lets you jump a battery that is extremely low or outright dead at 0.00V. Otherwise most jump packs need to detect a battery in order to attempt to jump it, so your mileage may vary on whether you can successfully jump a weak battery.

I should have mentioned that in spite of the Mav being perfectly fine at jumping another vehicle, (and another thing they forget to mention in the manuals, once hooked together, take a break while the jumping vehicle is "running", in this case the Mav in Ready mode, so that the jumpee can get charged up a bit before cranking), I do have a jump box. This one, as a matter of fact. For those times when you need to overspin the starter on a V8.

And a little maintenance suggestion for these jump boxes, use them. Not necessarily to jump vehicles, but almost all of them have USB ports and can be used as portable battery packs for cell phones and tablets. Charge your phone, then charge the jumper pack at least once a month, so it's not dead when you go to use it.

The only real issue trying to use the Maverick Hybrid to jump something is the low CCA of the 12v battery, a jump pack is a much better option. Likely safe bet is another hybrid vehicle, anything else, good luck.

It really isn't wise to jump anyone from any vehicle. Go buy a cheap little lithium jump battery. They work great. Multiple times holds charge forever. You're always at a risk of someone else's stuff being defective, This way at worst you blow up your $45 jump pack. The 12 volt battery is small on the hybrid and basically is designed to wake up the computers and let the HV pack spin up the ICE.

I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that as long as the Maverick is in the ready mode you will not be limited by its small battery as it's getting power from the HVB via the DC-DC inverter. Other wise I would not expect much ability to jump from just it's 12v battery by itself. It can, but will be very limited.

Good idea on getting a jump pack.

While you can get away with jumping another vehicle, and it usually should not be a problem, IMHO it isn't worth the risk, as for instance, if the failure in the other vehicle is a dead short.
You could end up with two dead vehicles.

Much safer to not subject your vehicle to another vehicle with a problem, when a jump pack works as well, without any risk to very expensive electronics in the hybrid.

"Exercising" them is a good idea, but if your jump pack requires monthly charges to mitigate self-discharge, the cells are going bad. Neither lithium ion or SLA batteries have a self-discharge rate that require charging that frequently unless they've aged considerably or been treated poorly.

Also, for long term storage, keep the thing charged to 70-80% or so. Keeping lithium batteries charged to 100% for extended periods will shorten how many cycles the cells will last.
