Unfortunately, my windshield has a rock chip with a now growing crack, I’ve heard of XLT owners getting replacements with the lariat acoustic glass, does anyone have any experience with this and if so, how are you able to have the glass company do it? I am in Florida where our insurance will pay for the replacement cost if that matters at all I’m under GEICO.

my Guess would be you would have to pay the extra expense of the acoustic glass vs the standard glass windshield. I would suggest requesting an OEM replacement, no generic and see if they would install the acoustic with you paying the difference in cost. You may have to work this out either with your insurance or the company doing the replacement.

When my lariat windshield got hit and cracked and I was speaking with the insurance rep I told them I would not accept a generic windshield that it had to be an exact oem windshield, they checked the vin and said no problem. They sent safelite out to my home and replaced it with the exact same as from the factory - SoundScreen acoustic with the windshield wiper de-icer and recalibrated all the camera/electronic stuff.

This has been debated here a few times over the years, not sure if anyone has came to a conclusion

🤔I was thinking about how easy it would be to test the differences.
Just comes down to details & logistics.
One owner of a Lariat.
One owner of a XL or XLT
One garage hopefully one of the trucks owners.
One 'large' Bluetooth 🔊 speaker
One cell phone with a decibel app or decimal meter.
A date convenient for both.

I may be in the minority here, about insisting on a Ford/OEM windshield, but when the original cracked from a single hit ('24 Lariat Tremor), the shop that replaced it used a PGW acoustic one that came from offshore. Honestly, in the last year and a half, it has taken 3 hits, 2 of them rather large, and no crack has resulted.

Personally, I’d rather watch lasers get blocked, yes, really! A window replacement is not going to get my panties in a knot whatever glass they put in! You are not getting rid of that type of “sound” completely, Ever! 🌬

Just saying as I get older I have lost some hearing range.
Might be something people in their mid 20's would notice but after that would not be worth it

I remember when I was test driving them, back to back the lariat was noticeably better on the highway. But dailying a XLT for work I cant say I notice road noise that much.

I'd go for a third party acoustic one, honestly, the ford OEM ones seem awfully fragile.

I thought that the OEM acoustic is the best option

All I can share is my experience, the OEM cracked at the first hit, the aftermarket PGW has not (yet).

Ford's acoustic windshields—officially branded as SoundScreen®—are manufactured by Carlex Glass America (frequently associated with the Carlite brand name on Ford vehicles).

I wish somebody or anybody would explain. How a laser can be blocked. Then continue on on the other side of the blockage and only the green laser.

I had my XLT windshield replaced with OEM acoustic glass under Geico. I took it to a Ford Certified glass replacement shop. I explained what I was trying to do to the shop desk and gave them the part#. They sourced the glass and submitted the claim to Geico. It was approved no problem. The acoustic glass was only 20 or 30 dollars more. Nobody batted an eye at Geico I'm sure. My deductible was the same either way.
