Soft windshield glass?

A rock hit my glass. Several days later there was a large crack. I had the glass replace by Safelite. They did a great job.

That whole calibration thing if you have 360 has got me worried.

I have no idea if glass can be soft and if so, I am surprised. But much like I figured out a long time ago, MTC owners are the whiniest people I have had the pleasure of meeting online.

Rock chip 12 days after after I bought the truck. Turned into a crack quickly, and had to have my windshield replaced by Safelite.

Put this Aeroskin2 original deflector on soon after and now hardly anything hits the windshield.

Rocks of all sizes...

Start small and work your way up until you get a crack. It's like bullets... you work your way up to build immunity.

Is it just me or does the windshield get easily nicked/chipped? I don't mean giant chips, but little ones from sand/grit. I apologize if this has been discussed before. I used the search and couldn't find anything.

The windshield glass is garbage ! Had mine replaced after a rock slammed it on the 5th day of ownership. The Safelite one that replaced it, has 4 tiny chips in it so far , after a year .This really is my only legitimate complaint.

Consider the clear windshield tint. The luminar ceramic IR is great and really reduces the temps for summer heat.

I don't understand? Because a small group of people say the Maverick has soft glass, is a tin can, tires that go bald quickly, rusts out, thin paint, are rear-end collision prone, etc. that just shows hyperbole with no verifiable stats. We just need to gently say to them - I understand, then ignore them.

I saw this same issue with the release of the Mini-Cooper. Their chatroom's most active complaint was rocks damaging the windshield. After a year it was concluded that the UPRIGHT windshield was going to take direct hits of rocks, not glancing blows...nothing to do with quality of glass.

Maverick has a very upright windshield. I wish some "hood deflector" manufacturer would come out with curved UPRIGHT hood deflector...they do work. The upright deflector tends to direct small rocks up and over the windshield, at least a little....it worked well on my Honda Element. I even called AIA (a manufacturer) and they totally agreed about the upright deflector working but said it was not a big seller.

Big reason I chose the deflector I have. Those flush ones do very little. But even the one I currently have on the Maverick doesn't have that lip on it like previous ones I've had. I added some rubber cones underneath to give a little bit more of a push and keep it from flipping all over the place. The included rubber bumpers were garbage. They do help a little with the smaller stuff.

I think the glass is just normal glass. There are minimum standards that need to be met.
