Most of the time my hybrid works great the majority of miles on it are hwy. Recently, I have been having a hybrid problem as you can see in the picture, I had been driving for a while and it seems I was running totally on the ICE and no hybrid. I have taken this particular trip before with this truck and one time it did this (got 25 mpg that time) but the first time it was normal and got the expected hwy mileage. Not being happy about 26 mpg I took it to the dealer and they said nothing was wrong but did reset the BSM, which made no difference. They said it was driving habits or a gas problem.

Driving from DFW to ABQ is a gradual uphill climb but like I said the first time I did it when the truck was newer it was normal, the last two times it did this, my driving is the same so something else changed. It seems like the engine is not putting out enough voltage to fulfill the needs of the battery. At one of my stops I ran the ICE for a while to provide additional charge to the battery and that made no difference.

In fact I was driving slower this time because i got new insurance and they are watching my trips to give me a better rate, they say. The speed limit is 75 and my cruse was set at 73.

I have had a few sleep mode episodes but none recently. They were before my last two trips.

Not happy about this or the dealers response and wondering if anyone has had a similar situation come up and if you found a solution or reason why this happened? In my mind this should never happen with this vehicle and it is a problem. Of all the discussions with this truck this is not one I have heard before.

No idea what the issue is, maybe try different dealer heck my EB gets better mileage than that on the hwy

Driving uphill at 73 mph wouldn't give much opportunity to charge the hybrid battery. How is your mileage in more "normal" city driving?
Yes. In the city, the regenerating process would work constantly. If there was a problem, it would be even more noticeable.

Also, what is the mileage in the other direction, from ABQ to DFW?

Hmmm. I would assume that the dealer checked for any diagnostic codes, and if there is a generator issue it would have been detected.

Not exactly going to be slipping into EV mode doing 73, unless decently down hill.

The up section may have been enough to engage the traction motor for extra power if needed, but that's just assist, not EV mode - you'd never notice it.

Running the ICE more to charge the HVB won't change anything about your highway miles due to speed.
Did you like sit there and keep hitting the Go pedal to kick the ICE on?
If the HVB was already at 70% - you weren't changing anything.

How did the wind direction and humidity and temps compare between trips?
Those matter for an ICE and mpg.

You said 1st two trips were normal - what does that mean for MPG since that is your compare?
What mph on highway then compared to 73 now?

You need to UN sign with that company ASAP !
You’ll slip over the speed limit one day, they will log it and use it against you on your next fender bender and it will hold up in a court of law.
Do not allow that kind of surveillance on you or your vehicle.
Might as well be an ankle bracelet like light weight criminals wear…

Holy Crap ! That’s Insane !

If I speak what I’m thinking I’ll get kicked out if this forum for good !

Tell me, what is the name of this insurance company or underwriter agency ?

I want to notify my black web hackers.
I want to make Anonymous aware of this.
This company should expect them.

Maybe the problem is in the eCVT? It might not be shifting to a better ratio for better mileage?

I see the problem, you got a bull stuck in your grill, that can kill your milage. Seriously, where did you get your fuel at. I had a similar issue going from Alamogordo NM. to L.A. and even though I was primarily freeway where I was still getting 34mpg, after a fill-up in AZ. my milage dropped to 26mpg. I next filled at the CA./AZ. border and my mileage jumped back up to nearly 37mpg. I just figured it was bad fuel but CA. speed limits are lower so that may have contributed to the increase.

Now that weather is above freezing, I'm getting 32-34 with eco boost combined highway and city. Glad I didn't get a hybrid.
I’m getting 45-50 MPG with the good weather, glad I didn’t get an Ecoboost. :p

Low tire pressure maybe?
I keep my pressure at the max rating for the tires.
My current all time MPG is 43.2
My elevation here is 10'. Yes, 10 feet, I don't know if elevation changes MPG significantly.
