Longest hybrid oil change interval?!?

Longest interval seems to mean for me as time not mileage.

So for me with less than 5,000 miles driven yearly it is exactly 1 year.

No...incorrect. MOST reading that would understand that he/she is talking about miles between changes....."Most" people.

These things do not have the capability to actually sample the oil for contaminants, additive breakdown, or oxidation. Not sure why they call it intelligent. Lol

Weird.
My hybrid is really gentle on the engine.
It only spins 5,000 miles out of 10,000 miles the tires see.

And unless I'm towing (which I do sometimes) my engine is NEVER above 2500 rpm in daily driving.

Oh, did I mention it has ZERO shift shock?

Just wondering how long people's Maverick OLM (oil life monitor) has gone on a hybrid.

My last change was at: 20,900 - current miles: 29,060 = 8,160 miles on oil currently.
OLM estimates 5900 miles to go

Means I could go over 14,000 miles on this oil change! Sweet. We'll see if the estimate holds...

I'm running a Fram XG3614 oil filter - which is good for up to 20k miles.
Oil: Havoline Lifelong 0W-20 - they only "guarantee" it for up to 10k miles. But it meets the Ford hybrid spec WSS-M2C962-A1, so it will last as long as the Ford OLM thinks it should.

Drive it without changing the oil until the engine locks up, then we'll know how long an interval it can last. I say this in jest, but people do it. Some last 30k, some last 90k, but it would be stupid to do.

Having only 8,190 miles on your oil are rookie numbers lol Although I’m surprised that number is still the highest mentioned on this thread! I thought some of the 800 Mile Club would be posting numbers into the high teens…

Question for anyone - does the hybrid OLM use the same algorithm as the EB? Does it calculate the 2.5l naturally aspirated Atkinson different than the Turbo 2.0? One would certainly hope.

Also curious if a Hybrid owner with more than 10,000 miles since last oil change, but percentage left on the OLM - has asked their dealer if it ok to keep driving past 10,000. I would still trust the OLM over the dealer. Unless it was Daryl - if he said change I would do it pronto!

It's hard to break years of ingrained superstitions.

To be fair, I do about 5k miles because we do a shit ton of drives that are only a few miles. Driving the car for longer durations a few times a month and changing the oil more often is how I try to hedge against things like condensation in the oil.

There was a thread about EB's and OLM readings - it was pulling teeth to get comments with enough details to determine anything besides - there are differences despite stated claims of driving about the same style for same miles. From the few that actually noted their OLM% when they did an oil change at whatever they were going to do anyway.

What I do recall catching my attention, was a comment similar to Mavster about pulling a trailer, and down around 3k the reminder came on.

There is a PID for Load%, I'd imagine it's different between 2.5 & 2.0.

You stated it absolutely correct. Basically a hybrid by its very nature puts the ICE in severe use through constant start/stop cycling. For our hybrid we are following the recommendation of 5,000 mile intervals and ignoring the supposed "intelligent" oil life "monitor". You have to remember that the oil monitor gizmo was engineered by the same engineers that couldn't (and still can't) figure how to stop all of the hybrid 12v batteries from causing the hybrids to go into deep sleep. Going to trust them same people with guessing on the oil's condition? Not in a million years.

Hybrids have been out on the roads for 26 years.

Show evidence they are "severe" on engines. Should be easy for you.

We think you no comprendé how hybrids actually start & stop. It's not like a traditional vehicle. It's like speaking a whole different language.

The constant stop/start is one of those factors. The other is we have over 90 days each year well above 100F in the hot dry Mojave Desert climate. Replacing the oil every 5,000 miles is cheap insurance to insure the longevity of the engine.

You can do what you like to do and no one will complain. Post bad information and prepare for a tongue lashing.

But I do.
And my LAB TESTS PROVE the oil life monitor is very conservative. It reminds you to change oil plenty early. Like 2500 to 5000 miles early.

Sure, it assumes you put manufacturer's specified oil in there.
Real life data proves many oils exceed manufacturer expectations. Mobil 1 does. There are many others.

If you put inferior oil in, that's your fault, not the oil life calculator's.

Yes.

Traditional engines start at some kind of engine load. Like 50%.

Hybrids start at 0% load.

Traditional has a 1 horsepower electric starter that barely moves the engine. Basically gasoline fires off your engine from a stand still. WHAM! BAM! Thank you M'am!

Hybrids have a high voltage 75 to 100 horsepower electric starter that does the "heavy lifting". The engine is not "working" at the moment it starts.

I agree that even with an intelligent oil life monitor that people should still check the dipstick and cap for things like gas dilution and condensation.

Why would anyone reset the OLM without changing the oil??

To turn off oil change light. (I had a neighbor in 1970's that bought new car every 70k miles or 2 years and never changed oil + other things.

It's been said Steve Jobs never registered a car. Would get a new car every six months when the "temporary tags" expired.

Don't know if its true. But a great story.
