A few days ago I got out of my Maverick and left all doors unlocked.... I dropped the tailgate and left it down for 2 days while it was in the garage..... when I went back to open the driver's door it was locked.... I went to the passenger door and it was not locked and I was able to get in with no problem..... I know that there have been many posts about the locking problems but since the passenger door was not locked confused me..... only the driver's door was locked.....,Would this be a safety feature so you could not drive away with the tailgate down...

Stand back gents. I got this one. 😁

You unknowingly / inadvertently Pushed the Lock LEVER as you pushed open your door.
This is a very common phenomenon NEW owners discover with the Ford Maverick and the Bronco Sport, because of similar door handle design. Allowing the driver to unconsciously, accidentally, mistakenly, inadvertently lock his door while pushing it open.😱
The fact that you state, the passenger door was unlocked.' confirms 100% beyond the shadow of a doubt. That you accidentally locked the driver's door by unknowingly pushing the lock lever while pushing open the door when you got out of the truck.😉 👇👇

It happens easily. Especially now in cold weather gloves on.

Ford recognized the issue as owner induced and issued the Below Service Bulletin

Tom,
Not that much more can be added but, if you have any more questions please don't hesitate to post them.

Thank you very much for probably solving another door lock query thread!

Your post really sorts out the driver door lock issue with no more muss or fuss or drama!

I detest drama...and I like clear answers like this!

Have a good one,

Andy

But if you pushed the lock doors button....why is only the driver door locked?

Is this a Ford feature? One very other car in existence, the lock button locks ALL doors, not just the driver door.

Or did the Ford just not manage to lock its passenger door somehow?

You quoted my post. I don't think you read my post. 🙁
I purposely said LEVER and not button.

Opening a vehicle’s driver’s door used to be a unconscious task, no longer is that the case I pay attention when exiting my Maverick to avoid frowning and mumbling under my breath when I realized my hand wasn’t positioned correctly 🤪

You could always train yourself to reach over and open the door with your right hand...

I don't think the issue is as much how you pull the door latch handle as it is how you push the door open. Rather than pushing the door open with your hand, use your elbow/forearm. This is how I've unconsciously done it with Fords with this same lock design for 25 years, and I've never accidentally locked the driver's door.

Good day @tiktokbrainrot

What happens and what Glen is referring to is the accidental pushing of the "MANUAL LEVER" (as indicated in Glen's photo's) by the driver when they push their door open...NOT the accidental pressing of the ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK BUTTON.

This is where the problem is and why it is only the driver door that is locked.

Yes, if you accidentally or purposefully press the ELECTRIC button, all doors will lock, or they should if everything is operating properly.

I hope this clarifies for you what was the cause of the OP's thread....the "manual lock" on the drivers door being pressed, probably by the drivers left hand.

If all else fails, do what I did when I became aware that this was a common issue - I went out and sat in my truck and looked at where the manual door lock is and where your hand is when opening the driver door...it will all become clear.

Have a good one,

Andy

A little training would help but I’m kinda use to it so I no longer have issues - I would like to design a small cylinder and actuator that activate once the driver pulls the door release to automate the door opening and use the camera on the side mirror to prevent the door from opening into any vehicle parked next to me but thats for another thread

Pushing the LEVER will only lock that single door. Pushing the actual electric lock BUTTON will lock them all.

I’ve gotten in the habit of hitting the electric unlock button if I intentionally want to leave the truck unlocked while I’m grabbing my coffee in the morning. OR, I do have the keypad, just in case.

How can people do this with either the fob in their pocket or the key in their hand?

This is totally a case of "Doc, it hurts when I do that." "Well, don't do that then." What's next? "I ran out of gas, but I didn't fill the tank."
