Since you have a 25MY hybrid - curious if you noted how many actual engine miles were used at the 5K and 10K wheel miles?

5K in 4 months - just wondering if lots of highway miles to obtain that, or actually more non-highway miles to benefit from hybrid?

Their analysis benefits from that info too, and their database for compares.

I'm sure a PHEV Rav4 getting a change at 1 year and 14K, but it only has 200 miles on the engine due to EV range being perfect for daily trips, would be an extreme case of the report looking off if they didn't know that fact.

Do you tow , do you idle a lot or drive heavy stop and go traffic?
Is it dusty or sandy or drive on unpaved roads?
Short trips under 10 miles in below freezing temps which I do. . Do you go off-road.
If you do you any of these you are now severe service.

The guys on youtube who pull apart engines on a regular basis and have proof of oil changes at recommended oil change time/miles must all work for big oil. Its all a con.

I’m not a total moron but can someone translate for me? I have a hybrid. I get that an oil change every 10,000 is adequate. I use synthetic oil. I also monitor the “oil life” stat on Ford Pass which right now says 40% and I’m taking it in Friday at 15,000 for state inspection and changing to summer tires. Any other basic advice from this post?
no you're good just keep doing what you're doing

I tow occasionally, I do a lot of stop and go traffic, I do hwy driving, it's very windy here so dusty, a solid mix of conditions

According to the 2023 hybrid Maverick's owner's manual it states that an oil change every 5,000 miles is needed if the vehicle is subjected to severe use which is defined further in the manual as extended periods of operation in extreme heat, or dry dusty areas. Also it includes if the vehicle is subjected to many short local trips with much stop and go (as the gas engine is repeatedly stopped and started). 5,000 miles intervals is a prudent was to ensure longevity of the engine. This is an A.I. composed road trip showing what 5,000 miles is. I would definitely get an oil change before a trip of this length and one soon afterwards.

And you're the say all be all on oil changes, or what? I changed at 5k to make sure to get the oil out during the motor break in period. I then changed at 10k to see the difference in OEM vs amsoil. You do see they recommended 7k oil changes, or did you skip that part? However, I'm at 15k and will do my next oil change and analysis at 20k. I've done 10k oil changes on all my Toyotas and no issues. My wife's Toyota at 150k oil analysis is great. My Camry at 170k was too.

As far as changing the first oil change before 10k is actually a good idea to get all the metal from machining out as early as possible. Several people do it at 1k. But if someone doesn't buy into 10k oil changes who are you to tell them what to spend their money on? 🤷🏻‍♂️
You took it the wrong way.
Good start to life with your truck.
Blackstone is saying go at least 7k next time. If you do the report will be equally good and they will tell you to go to 9k or 10k interval after that.

BEEN THERE. DONE THAT.

They tell me to go 17,000 miles when I send them a 15,000 mile old sample.

These particular HYBRIDS are gentle on oil!

Wishing you the best. You're off to a great start is what I was trying to say.

my bad! forgive me please

I'm in the 10k oil club, took me a while to move from 3k to 5k to 10k but I'm 50 and old habits die hard. Oils are a lot better now. I tested one at 20k on an older vehicle and it was surprisingly good, but I can't do that in my mind lol. I'll stick with 10k

Thanks for the encouragement

Just you CAN trust the on board oil life monitor. It's way better at keeping track of things than any human. And makes way more sense than changing oil "just because" or on a fixed schedule.

Driving is random. The stress two batches of oil will experience will never be the same. There is no logic in doing oil changes at any fixed number of miles or fixed number of days. Other than in the PAST it was easier for the human to remember a fixed schedule.
And that fixed schedule was purposely conservative to cover worst case scenarios.

The oil life monitor hits zero / tells me to change oil in 5,000 miles if I tow 5,000 miles. I did that in 3 weeks on time. Guess what? I had a 3 week oil change interval.

Then I went 14,000 miles of mostly highway and not towing and the oil life monitor told me to change oil at 14,500 miles. That was a 10 month oil change interval.

If you are an "average driver" in "average conditions" it will work out to tell you to change oil at 10,000 miles +/- .

The computer is NOT only a timer.
The computation is NOT only based on miles driven.

The exact formula is unpublished but it is known many factors go into it. More than the human driver has ability to monitor.

I’ve always said the Maverick Hybrid is engineering marvel!

Although I’d think you’d agree that is important to flush out all the “wear metals” in a couple “early oil changes” before going to 17,000 between changes.

I wonder if the OLM takes into account the additional wear metals in the oil the first 5000-10000 miles…trade secret I bet:)

Well not the worst oil thread I've seen, it hit all the bases.

I like running clean oil, not worried about making my underwear last 7 days........

Unlike the GM system, the Ford OLM takes engine loads and temperatures into account when figuring out remaining life. You don't need to track it yourself unless you're using substandard oil.

Hmm... I am under the opposite impression that the GM one is a smart algorithm. My 2018 F350 goes off every 10K no matter the load or time.

Another report that shows changing oil too early.

Hybrids really can go 10,000+ miles between changes.

It's not a stretch. It is not a risk.
10,000 miles is way conservative in a hybrid.
Yep....even Blackstone said..."You big Dummy....try 7000 AT LEAST next time".....LOL :crackup::crackup::crackup:
