I have a 2023 xl hybrid.... I have a problem with the green plastic fuel door release located by the driver rear wheel well... apparently it somehow keeps the fuel door from closing completely resulting in gas fumes in the garage..... I know that you will say, check the owners manual...... the picture is of very poor quality as you may know.... I need to know where the green plastic cord should be clipped on after using the release cord.... please send a picture as the manual picture is for crap...ty guys....

Maybe the fuel door latch part is worn?
Looks like the green manual release lanyard goes to the fuel door solenoid listed as motor assy.
I guess the tappet assy gets released by the solenoid when fuel door button is pressed.

HOW TO remove your fuel filler cover and replace your fuel door pin (Maverick & Hybrid)

Motor Assy. Part Number: ML3Z-5428610-A

Be glad it is. The guys who undercoated my Maverick when I got it sprayed over the release, I have no idea if it will even work. :ROFLMAO:
Hmmm... never thought to check mine after it got the (epoxy?) undercoat done.

Will have to check!

Thanks for the idea!

I don't think the fuel door being open will cause the gas fumes in the garage, the fuel door is far from air-tight, you may have a leak in the filler tube or elsewhere.

It doesn't happen until 1 or 2 weeks after refueling....if that helps...

Hmmm...if it isn't sealed wouldn't it show an error? If you don't start filling within a few minutes, it is supposed to close the filler neck. This is a sealed system in a hybrid.

Take to dealer if still in 3yd/36k warranty. Particularly if the green pull tab has not been pulled. If it has been pulled I'm not sure how to reset it. If necessary????

Not a fan of this emergency release handle. Anyone with knowledge of its function can just pop open the fuel filler door and do whatever. It really defeats the purpose of having it locked closed in the first place. I tucked mine back behind the wheel well shroud as far as I could. At least it makes it a bit more difficult for someone that's up to no good.

Ty Glen.... I got it clipped in the right place.....

I'm thinking of a few scenarios.
1. Slight fuel tank leak. More common in the hybrids because of the pressurized fuel tank.
2. Accidentally hitting the fuel door button.

3. The capless fuel cap.
When I tested it out this morning.
I opened the fuel door and I only had a very slight smell of gas, but when I pushed in on the cap flap it was a real strong smell of gas.

Good thing you don't owe an EcoBoost. The fuel door doesn't lock on the EcoBoost.😮
Very few steal gas by siphoning. They just punch a hole in the plastic gas tank and drain it. You need to carry around a shewee style funnel to add anything to the gas tank.
