Here is what I came up with:

It would rattle on the sun visor. I use the cubby hole for the FOB. My truck does not have a sunglasses holder.

It is made out of a piece of thin sheet metal. Dimensions in metric because the cut size came on the line. Width and length of ice cream bar stick will be depend on your remote. If it rattles put some sound deadening material under the remote.

Seems like "up too high" and in the way. How about "hidden away?" I bought the center
console tray inserts after getting my truck. Put remote in slotted tray area on the top
layer of trays. Lift console door, hit the button....boom your done and it doesn't bother
anything or in the way. stays put, no noises. Mine is just like yours.

But now your mystery slot/slit is inoperable, that just will not do!

What a great idea! I just bent & hammered my existing clip to fit in the slot - perfect fit.

The “mystery slot” is no longer a mystery in my Maverick. It’s a remote mount! Thank you for the inspiration

Picked up a auto dimming mirror with home link from a Nissan Murano at a local scrap yard for $25
Its about 1/4" bigger height wise but very close to the same size as the Maverick.
Not sure I like the compass part but there's a button to turn it off

Perfect for lots of "stuff." I put my remote in the front slot. Perfect. And the Organizer sits right in place, no moving, no noises.....perfect, and makes great use of that deep center console.
There's a 2nd layer also as part of the Organizer.

There no official use.
What you use it for is entirely up to you.
It will hold almost anything you can think of that will fit. Credit card, national parks pass, some parking passes, parking lot issued tickets..... Etc.

In case you are wondering. There is a bottom to it, that is as far in as my parks pass will go.

I have mine clicked on the Sun Visor and haven't noticed it rattling.
