You would need to see if it has a set screw mount

It should, uses the same set screw mount but you would need to get the connector from a scrap yard as ford doesn't sell the pigtail , only the entire harness
Same goes for Bronco Sport & Escape

I had that in my 2005 Lincoln LS. I sure wish they'd rolled that down to Fords in the highest trim packages.

There no official use.
What you use it for is entirely up to you.
It will hold almost anything you can think of that will fit. Credit card, national parks pass, some parking passes, parking lot issued tickets..... Etc.

In case you are wondering. There is a bottom to it, that is as far in as my parks pass will go.

Many of us remember our childhood homes with the manual garage doors. Dad would voice command us to get out of car & open the garage door (no lock).
