My legs are so long that I have to have the wheel at top position, and then I can't see the PRNDL on the dash. Plus I confuse right and left sometimes. I have to think of playing piano or turning at an intersection to keep it straight which is which!
I can understand having problems if you confuse right and left. That's an issue I didn't consider that people may have. The selections are in the same order as they've pretty much always been left to right (as you move an automatic column shift up and down), so I figured everyone was used to that.

I don't look at the PRNDL or the dial at all when I'm shifting. I can select the correct gear with a blindfold on. But, I suppose I shouldn't expect that everyone can.

We had a 62 Plymouth with the push button transmission. It was great until it wasn't. The left side buttons opened up the center console area and was pretty cool. However, the buttons would get stuck and you weren't able to shift into another gear without much persuasion.

The dial shifter can easily be shifted without ever looking at it. Good luck doing that with this.
I don't need luck when I press a button. I always look at the dial so no different for me. Maybe the Dial would be better if it was higher up...

That's a blast from the past. My mom had a two tone Brown over gold Plymouth Fury station wagon. Push button transmission "Squarish" clear lucite steering wheel. Chrome bullet tail lights and a V8 to tow our travel trailer.
The same interior as pictured below.

Thanks for the Memories.

Oh, that's even better. Not only do you have to look at what button to push, you have to reach around the steering wheel to do it, and with your left hand. That's some serious innovation! :ROFLMAO:

My mom never seemed have a problem or complain about it or its location. 🤔
But then again, she was raised in a different era.
When innovating not every Innovation is going to to be a winner.

I'll confess ... driving cross-country last summer at night in the dark, my iphone charging cable got wrapped around the Maverick gear shift knob. Got a phone call and picked up phone and phone cable pulled my gear shifter from Drive into Park while doing 70 mph....Would have thought it would have (blown up something) destroyed something....but the Maverick simply went into Neutral....no damage done. But would not recommend this experiment. For clarification my "previous" charging cable was metal cable with ridges....

I can deal with the dial shifter, but the little Porsche shifter next door is a dial (PDK) transmission but there are paddle shifters on the steering wheel to shift into sport mode, eco mode, etc...Having to press the Gear Mode button five times to get to Sport Mode is a blind PITA.

Growing up (I'm over 70 now), my father had a Rambler with one. He loved that car until the front passenger side wheel just fell off as my brother parked it at college one day.
yup. kingpin instead of ball joint. i had a Rambler that both fell off (actually they hang on w some strut above it). they shake violently first. i'd try to get home, each time i got to within a half block of my house (different sides) and they let loose.

Yes, that's one of the reasons hands-free phone use is mandated in many states.

A shorter cable or a different cord material would probably solve the problem too. I run my cable from the rear ports so it can't get caught that way either.

Very true. I'm not a complainer because, honestly, I think complaining about something that can't be changed is a waste of time. I like your quote, "When innovating not every Innovation is going to to be a winner." That is so true, as evidenced by all the of the newer tech that people complain about with the Maverick.
