I believe that unlike Sync which is coded in house by Ford the Ford Digital Experience is just an overlay on top of Android Automotive OS. Which should not be confuse with Android Auto. They are two different things.
Which unfortunately means there is no way to escape Google data mining for AI and resale. Great for Alphabet and Ford, not great for owners Who like to avoid Google like the plague that it is.

“ The car manufacturers want all of the control over your data.”

That is or should be obvious to all.
Data mining is profitable.

Would you want other companies profiting in your mine ?
None of this should be a surprise.
wouldn't it be cool if some day legislation passes that all companies that gathered and sold your info/data had to share with you at least 25% of the profit they made every time they did it? Sure, it's likely a tenth of a cent each time, but likely at least tens of thousands of times...from just one company.

Why not just post the actual link to the article so everyone can easily access it and read it instead of a picture?
Also ditching Sync 4 has nothing to do with Carplay & AA being offered.
My initial reply was to "icegradner" whom I quoted.

I was throwing out as a possible source.
I agree ditching Sync for has nothing to do with carplay and AA. For now.
Ford watches what GM does and vice versa. All the car companies gauge what the other companies do to see what successful or not.
Plus by dropping "Sync" Ford will save on third-party licensing costs??

... Ford's CEO Jim Farley has stated several times over the past three years that Ford has no intention of no longer offering Carplay and Android Auto in their vehicles.
At one point he even stated "we kind of lost that battle 10 years ago".
As far as I now GM is the only one so far to announce any plans go phase out Carplay & AA ...
The problem is once the ball gets rolling on axing it from the other big manufacturers, they'll jump in line too, because the board will see it as an extra source of revenue they are not utilizing and ol' Jim will all of a sudden have a fiduciary responsibility to not leave that money on the table either.

It should also be noted that the ONLY vehicle manufacturer that uses Android Automotive OS in their vehicles and has NOT allowed access to CP and AA is General Motors and that is ONLY on their EV platforms.

If you purchase a gasoline powered GM it still supports CP and AA. Not sure what the reasoning behind this decision was and so far GM has not offered an explanation or at least not one that makes sense.

GM has recently updated their 'EV only' stance according to this article.

This is just another revenue stream they are playing with.
It has very little to do with "control" or "spying" other than a way to monetize it.
If people start rejecting it by buying vehicles that do NOT have proprietary software, they'll stop.

Remember that one Euro car company played with "monthly subscription" to activate some features like GPS, CC, even AC. It didn't go over very well.

Personally, I'd pay EXTRA to have a totally disconnected car, that you could replace the screen with aftermarket radios, or add/replace other devices in without causing loss of function. Remember those old car radios that you could pull out, or remove the faceplate to reduce chance of theft? What if cars started coming with a universal Tablet docking station where you used whatever Tablet (or phone) you wanted? You could use whatever software you wanted, update instantly if needed at home for free, or cost of app? CarPlay and Android Auto are steps in this direction.

Instead, we are tethered to whatever the Mfg provides, which is often YEARS behind current tech and apps. Even their "top tier" MySuck model.
It will be interesting to see if the bare bones Slate comes to market with the bring your own tablet/phone infotaintment concept. I believe they will still have some means to attempt to mine and monetize your data.

I don't care who monetizes my data, whether it's Ford, Google, or Apple.

I use Android Auto with wireless adapters in both of our cars and I like having the same interface to the 3 M's (maps, music, and messaging) whether I'm driving my Ford or my wife's Toyota.

Hmmm.....very interesting. Thanks for the correction.
No problem.
Auto Executives can change their mind at the drop of a hat.
I put that in the same category as Jim Farley saying they're committed to Apple carplay or Android auto.
It's not like Farly can't change his mind tomorrow and direction the company is going.

No CarPlay or Android Auto? No sale for me. Simple as that. I wouldn't buy a car without heated seats, I'm not going to buy one without CP/AA.

I guess if I can get into the car, my phone connects via Bluetooth to the screen, I see the mapping that I have now, I can play Spotify, or Sirius XM, or listen to YouTube, or whatever I do now basically, then I don't care if it's CarPlay, auto Android, if it's Ford experience, as long as it does what it does now.

As for who's getting my information, I don't worry about that because your information is out there. it's on a computer somewhere. And if it's on a computer somewhere it can be hacked and stolen

My very first “cell phone” was the IPhone soon after its release more than 25 years ago. Used IPhones ever since - including the SE I’m currently typing on. Only “computer” in my house. I have a NOS SE as backup when this current one “bricks”.

Apple & Siri know more about me than even I can remember - and Apple CarPlay is a “must have” in any vehicle of mine. We go way back:)

It's all about money and control.
I see the same thing with forcing the EV agenda.
So... if oil company execs give lots of money to someone/something and then the "EV agenda" goes away... how does that fit in to your views?
