The majority of any ya find on the shelves in the US are made by 3 or 4 different manufacturers, Johnson Controls being the biggest. Then there labeled with the the different brand names
This is true with so many products, battery, tools, and car parts in general.

Just wanted to contribute. My son's truck has had two instances of the battery dying overnight. After finding out about this update, I grabbed a two day license for FDRS to run it. The update failed the first three tries. The update has you start the engine, but the truck was staying in electric mode. The fourth try, when prompted to start the engine, I also hit the accelerator pedal to get the ICE to kick on and hit continue before it shut back off. The update went perfectly smooth after that. FWIW, I had a battery charger hooked directly on the battery posts in power supply mode the entire time.

I wouldn’t get a Ford battery anyway. No warranty, no need to get anything from Ford. Not sure about in the US, but on the Canadian warranty paper it calls the 12v battery a wear item and is listed as not covered after 1 year anyway.

I am still on the factory installed battery (over 3 years in), even though it’s in deep sleep most of the year. Guess I drive it enough to keep it from dying. I figure by the time the factory battery is toast it’s time to dump this truck.
Bullshit. The 3yr bumper-to-bumper warranty covers the battery also.

At least one of the updates requires that 13v are supplied to allow the completion of the shutdown and restart of the modules. Maybe your connection on the negative post was on the battery side of the BMS which is a nono per the manual. The tech that runs the updates on my hybrids connects his power supply to the jump posts not the battery.

Good luck. The AC Module SSM update hasn't worked for many people as they are still having the deep sleep problem. Hopefully Ford is truly still working on solving deep sleep.
Welp.... it's scheduled for 10/6 for the same problem already. ....

As I have previously stated. They are apparently completely clueless and we are entitled to a solution. Twice this year they "promised" a solution and ignored their own dates by which they said one would be announced. This last one wasn't announced as the "solution" but instead as a "possible" cause of battery discharge that "may" contribute to the vehicle having the deep sleep problem. Let us all know what excuse(s) they give you when you take it in.

What's the move on this these days? I asked my dealer when this update first came out and they said they had no idea. Should I just call and reference the SSM#?

This is an updated active thread - so all the current comments should give you "the move" on where it's at.
Just review some pages.

And since the SSM would likely only appear for a tech who searched for battery drain issue because that's what happening to the vehicle in front of them - yea the service writer probably won't see it.
You'll need to mention it.

Well, I still have 14 months of warranty. Hope by the time my original battery dies, I get the AGM without fuss, otherwise I will really stress that BXT in hopes of getting the AGM before my warranty is gone.
I guess I need to plug fuse 11 back in and start stressing the battery. Sunday, I went to use truck and the locks would not even open with the remote. Battery was totally flat, got it to dealer yesterday and picked it up today with a new BXT installed under warranty. I guess they (Ford/dealer) are still using up the BXT battery inventory. Knew my old battery would fail soon as just a month ago I took it in for it's first no start condition. They applied the SSM did all the open recalls and said the battery passed all the Ford required tests. As soon as I plugged my scan gauge back in when I got it home, I knew it would be soon as only saw 11.9 volts at first. Was holding close to that well however, until Sunday. Even drove it over 15 miles Saturday. Suddenly nothing on Sunday, four weeks to the day from the first no start incident. Maybe I can get an AGM under warranty if this one fails before it's expired as I really did baby that first battery. Pulled fuse 11 soon after purchase, charged it every six weeks or so once it started showing battery saver signs. This one will get no special treatment, just expected to do what it's supposed to. Ford needs to actually fix this problem as it has already cost them more than just batteries, many people have left the brand for this reason alone. There are many other Ford fails out there too, that I don't need to mention. Most have finally been addressed, but none in a timely manor. I really like this vehicle and wanted to keep it a long time, but. . .but. . .I just don't know. My future probably holds new CV joints at the minimum and a new 12v battery too often if I keep it.

Yeah, it is sad Ford has alienated a lot of people over this issue. I refused another of the BXT batteries and, when Ford refused to pay for the AGM, paid out of pocket and filed a case with BBB Auto Line and finally got that resolved with Ford agreeing to reimburse for the AGM. I am a Ford retiree and have purchased 5 new vehicles in 6 years from the company but it made no difference. It left a bad taste in my mouth and has caused me to turn several requests for X plan referrals over this. I am still waiting for an apology from my original dealer who could find NOTHING wrong with my battery although the second dealer quickly determined it was defective. I guess they want me to take my business else where and maybe Ford does, too. All over a damn battery!

Certainly understand the frustration. IMO - changing to an AGM will definitely help delay the issue occurring but its just a matter of time before they will begin show the same issue. The only real fix is for ford to correct their s/w coding related to the charging. If you search the f150 forums on the powerboost (hybrid) you'll see the same issue reported on them. You would think ford would get their head out of the sand....

Until this past weekend never had any battery issues ( 2 yo Hybrid) but deep sleep after an extended vacation. This weekend car did not want to start and got weird errors including unable to release parking brake. Voltage was low and charged the battery. Today had the 2nd oil change done and they tested the battery and it was bad and it was replaced with an AGM. Interesting enough it stated the core return was also AGM. BAGM-H4.

What gets replaced has to match what is replacing.

Not true. First I had like replacement followed by a bigger CCA replacement twice and this one is showing signs of losing power after 6 months. Dome lights still work though right now. I do get battery saver alerts on app again and shut down messages on my dash and sometimes on the radio. I'm thinking of mounting a solar panel to the roof for charging as well as permanently connect a jump pack. It really is a shame, such a cool vehicle concept.
