Ford is replacing the EFL battery on the EcoBoost with an AGM one. but not on the Hybrid. The AGM has better cranking power, but only slightly better reserve capacity for twice the price. The EcoBoost needs the CCA, while the Hybrid needs the RC number. Realistically, putting an AGM in the Hybrid is a waste of money, as it is not going to last twice as long and the slightly better CCA is unused.

In spite of all the misinformation being bandied about here, there is nothing physically wrong with either battery type. The real problem is the BMS misprogramming, causing any non-lithium battery not to fully charge and therefore sulphate. The BMS programming error fix has still not been released.

That is the same battery as the one that went bad. The new one is the BAGM-H4 battery. When I had my second bad battery in 18 months replaces a month ago Ford wanted to put another BXT battery in my truck but I refused and demanded the AGM. Therefore Ford refused to pay. I was forced to pay out of pocket for the battery plus the dealer install. I filed a complaint with BBB Auto Line since Ford parts now shows the AGM as the stock battery for my '24 hybrid Maverick. I had to send a few pics to back up my claim but yesterday I got an email that Ford decided to settle my claim by paying in full to reimburse me the total I spent replacing with the AGM. I hope your BXT is better than the last one but I have my doubts. So far I have had NO issues with AGM!
Last week after my 4th battery fail in 14mo's Ford finally acknowledged that they do have an issue with the battery's. They replaced mine with an AGM at no charge, i doubt it is the real fix but at least they are finally agreeing the trucks have a charging issue and its not that we are not driving enough which at least is a small step forward to a real fix

You almost have to wonder, given that they haven't fixed that core programming issue, if the programming is on purpose to increase battery sales.

Why would we, as owners, lock the doors of our Maverick hybrid if the vehicle is locked inside our garage?
I lock up my Maverick in my locked garage. What if someone breaks into the garage? Never make it easy for a thief.

Also, if the hypothetical thief were to be caught, it is an extra charge. Breaking and entering for the garage, criminal mischief and theft for breaking into the Maverick.

In all reality, the regular battery probably would have been sufficient THIS TIME because the underlying problem was finally solved. However, the AGM battery supplies an EXTRA margin of protection for a couple of reasons 1. It has more CCA . 2. It can tolerate more discharge cycles. So even if the draw isn't 100% eliminated, it won't be destroyed if it's partially discharged like the regular flooded batteries are. So getting the AGM was a good thing. But those who got another flooded battery AFTER the draw was fixed will probably be ok as well. Again, you have an extra margin of protection. And given the small difference in price at the wholesale level between the flooded vs AGM battery, it seems like a low cost way to satisfy customers. In fact, it would probably SAVE them money vs replacing the flooded battery under warranty repeatedly.

Ah, yes, replacing batteries free under warranty for... profit?

Not every Maverick is under factory warranty anymore, believe it or not. ;)
This is true, but if you are paying for that replacement battery, there are better choices than the Ford brand IMO.

Mischief of interrupting scheduled maintenance 😁

I've actually had pretty good luck with Motorcrafts as aftermarket replacement and could get them cheaper with same or better warranty than my regular supplier account with NAPA.

I wouldn’t get a Ford battery anyway. No warranty, no need to get anything from Ford. Not sure about in the US, but on the Canadian warranty paper it calls the 12v battery a wear item and is listed as not covered after 1 year anyway.

I am still on the factory installed battery (over 3 years in), even though it’s in deep sleep most of the year. Guess I drive it enough to keep it from dying. I figure by the time the factory battery is toast it’s time to dump this truck.

The majority of any ya find on the shelves in the US are made by 3 or 4 different manufacturers, Johnson Controls being the biggest. Then there labeled with the the different brand names

That is still basically true, but Johnson Controls separated from it's battery operations, now under the under the name Clarios. It's the parent company behind Diehard and Optima.

Not just labeled - but spec'd differently too.

And beyond spec'd - be interesting to find if different grade of materials for the ones with longer or shorter warranties.
