I also own a Chevy Spark. I rather like it as it's sporty by nature, no, not good acceleration, but if you know how to drive a car, you don't have to slow down too much, but it's certainly not my first compact, economy, minimalist vehicle. The thing is how this is a compact, maybe entry level car but unlike the cars like it from thirty or forty years ago, this has:
  • DOHC
  • 4-valves/cylinder
  • EFI
  • CVT
  • Power brakes, w/ vented discs in front
  • Power rack & pinion steering
  • 15" alloy wheels w/ 55 series tires
  • Power windows
  • 4-speaker stereo w/ satellite radio, Bluetooth, etc.
  • Electronic instrument panel
  • Rear window defogger
  • OnStar
  • Airbags and not just the steering wheel
  • Air conditioning
  • Delay wipers
  • Plastic body panel (handles bumps, no rust)
  • Many passive safety features like crumple zones
  • Third brake light
  • Halogen headlamps
And this car is ten years old. So much of this didn't exist yet or was just high performance or luxury, but it's all here on a little economy car that is styled quite nicely compared to econoboxes of the past, and it hardly needs any of that 12k mile maintenance that old cars needed. I do not take any of this stuff for granted and appreciate all of it.

It helps to keep in mind that this is Ford's entry-level vehicle. It is not at all exotic.
You mention "exotic", and my German cars; BMW, Audi, were not exotic but they were maintenance headaches. They constantly needed something replaced. That's why my wife drives a Lexus. No drama, no issues, excellent dealers.

With the exception of the battery sleep issue which I still have not addressed, my Mav has been a joy to drive.

I tinkered under the hood yesterday. The gum ball tree in the neighbor's yard keeps dropping it's "fruit" into the cowl. So I meant to order Maxzina's under hood guards but clicked on these instead. Probably the same company, I am sure they are the same parts.

I don;t miss the old cars of my youth (60-90s vehicles) that needed fixing daily to get to work.
I might have to invest in these soon, I noticed the hood cowl likes to catch leaves now that they're starting to fall.

OP - you're correct. I've owned 40 cars in 25 years, and I've been a member of a multitude of communities associated with many of them. There are some standard truths about car communities, and one of them is that in the absence of any real problem, people tend to decide to stress about the what-ifs. A few more universal truths are that people will always:

1) Complain that their make/model specifically is especially prone to windshield damage.
2) Complain that their make/model specifically has especially weak paint.
3) If a gasoline engine is involved, even if it is a 1994 Toyota Tercel, at least a few people will swear that it benefits from premium fuel and needs a full synthetic oil change every 600 feet.

It can be exhausting.

I'll say this - of the 40 cars I've owned and the hundreds of thousands of miles I have put on them, I have always followed the manufacturers recommendations. I run the OCIs specified by the manufacturers and have used the gasoline that is "required" regardless of what is "recommended". None of my cars have ever been overly problematic, and the ones that have had some extra issues - those were never related to maintenance.

So I'm a big believer in drive it and stop trying to find stuff to worry about. Have you watched the news? There's plenty of real stuff if your mind needs something to worry about for you to function.

Keep driving.

I've been a part of this group since may when I purchased my Maverick. And I'm convinced that some people worry unnecessarily and figure they NEED to find something to stress over. The truth is that Modern vehicles simply don't need us to constantly maintain and baby them. It's not 1990 anymore 😅. Check you oil and coolant level regularly and change it as recommended by Ford or a bit earlier. Keep your tires inflated, inspect brakes when you rotate your tires. You can generally follow the maintenance schedule based on your use as given in the owners guide. Your Maverick will be just fine. If you need to constantly tinker under the hood of your vehicle, buy and old car. As for your maverick Ride and Enjoy
I'm only stressing over the fact that my Lariat has not been delivered yet 😂

Sounds like you got months of trouble-free use out of them. :)

(I've owned four cars, one of which was stolen after 4 years, and my Maverick in 40 years. I still have all but the stolen one.)

While I have a lot of the same complaints about these as everyone else, plastics, janky radio etc, I don't stress and really enjoy driving the little mofo. I'm old enough to remember when people were happy if a muscle car squeaked into the 15s in the quarter.
To me the Mav is hop in and go car with no worries that is practical and also can out Corvette my 1977 Corvette. Which sucks for the Vette but you know, smog era.

Oh cool, an expert. What airfreshener can I use that won't void my warranty?

Agree 100% our 23 ecoboost is 3years old, 32k miles. I didn't change the " break in oil" at 1k, I changed it at 5 k per factory recommendation. I haven't changed the RDU fluid, or the trans fluid.i haven't rotated the tires or even changed the cabin filter.i wash it once or twice a year, with dishsoap and wax with paste wax. The truck has been trouble free, paint looks like new, all 4 tires wear look exactly the same. We tow with it regularly. Hoping this maverick is as dependable as my 16 year old ram I bought new, and maintained the same way.
Isn't the Manufacturer recommendation to change the break in oil at 10k miles?

But you don't drive it 12 to 15k miles a year. I remember my Dad saying I was buying a worn out POS in 1976 when I bought a 71 Torino with 60k on it. Turned out he was right.
thats true.it gets driven very little, maybe 500 miles a year. I have owned it 32 years now. It has 147,000 miles on it. Engine was totally rebuilt at 82,000 miles. And....I just replaced the bf goodrich tires this spring.they were over 30 years old and all 4 still looked like new.
