Also officially old (old enough to collect social security, before they stop issuing it...).
I think comparisons are in order, not just "do you enjoy". Compared to the Transit(not Connect), I greatly enjoy getting 45mpg as opposed to 15mpg, cuz, I LIKE money. I like being able to fit in most parking spots. I've been on the Big island for the last couple weeks, and I enjoy driving the old X5 we keep here more than the Mav. More comfortable, better handling, quieter, more ergonomic, better driver visibility, but only gets about 20mpg. If/when the X5 dies, I would consider getting another Mav to have here on the island, but I'd be looking hard at another small SUV like a hybrid or electric Hyundai or Rav4 or something. Unless I was driving over to Hilo and back every day, there's no need for us to have an ICE vehicle here.

I'm one of those people who likes Grand Marquis / Town car type vehicles. My last car was a 2011 focus because I needed something, and my sister was selling hers let me pay her in installments . It was a solid vehicle. And it served me well. AND I enjoyed the fuel efficiency. But it wasn't something I would have chosen for myself otherwise. Since a full sized CAR is no longer an option in the usa. I removed that preference from my mind. It might sound crazy. But 4 door pickup trucks are the closest thing to a sedan once you add a tonneau cover. The commute to work alone is around 450 miles weekly. With other driving it approaches 600 weekly. The highway driving to work gives me about the same fuel economy as my focus. But I can really enjoy the drive in my unnecessary driving. That's where it really shines. I crack the sunroof open the windows, and ride around getting 36-50 mpg depending on where I'm driving. I wish it was a plug in hybrid or EV. But this is close enough.

Unfortunately, I still work (61) so I only get a chance to do my old man type driving on weekends.
the horror!
😱

I hear ya brother, I retired at 57, lasted two months.
I was allegedly 57 (can't trust those calendar things; I'm really 24!) when I admitted/concluded that I was retired.

Covid relief (not covid itself) wiped out my line of work (bankruptcy law--it took away the last straws that cause people to call). And I released that our retirement accounts made more than I'd ever grossed, and we could start tapping my wife's in a couple of months.

I’m a carnivore. :’P
same here. I'm a belligerent carnivore; "vegetarian barbecue" is a reference to the unsuspecting guest of honor!
😱

After I retire, I'll probably still do auto repair at my home and mobily. But it will be on MY terms at my pace.
And on my lifts. Three coming up when I move (how else can I put six classic cars in the garage when more than a 3 car garage is hard to find? 🤔 )

But now, heated steering wheel, bun warmer and 40+ mpg are motivators for me
power adjustable lumbar will be a necessity on my own truck (the maverick is for my wife), as will be massaging seats. And I'll consider a house without a pool (would prefer, actually, but my wife now wants one), but not without hot tub with jets!
