I feel this is a little much for an automatic car wash. Since I'm in the vehicle, why not just allow me to put it neutral instead of having to use the steps in the manual. Now if I had the door open or something I can understand. As the Mike's car wash I like to go to, (never had any issues from the brushes), they are rather quick at getting your car moving and you don't have a lot of time playing around putting it into neutral.

Edit* tagging @Ford Motor Company
Just went tru car wash with my hybrid
Just put in neutral dont have to anything
Special I thought you had to lock dial
You don’t

The manual says "Use this mode if you exit your vehicle ... at an automatic car wash."

the main thing is putting in neutral if your going tru wash that pulls you tru
Does not make a difference engine stops or runs as long as it’s in neutral

our escape has push start and stop start engine when brake is on engine shuts off
When you pull in car wash that pulls or you ride on track only thing you do is put in neutral and take foot off brake
Does not make difference if engine is
Running
Thank you, thank you thank you! I started through this thread and couldn't believe the answers. We've had auto/stop on our F-150 for a few years now so we are familiar with it.

I'm not sure what your point is. Are you trying to say something?
Sorry I meant to say If it’s a automatic car wash that your suppose to stay in car why would you open door
Most these days are on tracks or rails that take you tru while In car so just put in neutral foot off brake

This shows how people end up going in circles when they don't actually read the posts. Here's how it went:
  • A post asked, "Why use this more complicated process if I am going to stay in the car?"
  • I responded, "the manual advises use of that process only if you get out of the car."
  • Then you came back with essentially, "Yeah, but what if I'm staying in the car?"
If an "LOL" is ever appropriate, I think now would be the time...

(BTW, there are two automatic car washes near me. At one of them you stay in the car. At the other you don't.)

Hello, I screwed up my courage and went thru the car wash! Totally fine! Thanks to all of you with tips. Good to overcome a irrational fear🤣

If you have a car wash where you get out of the vehicle putting it into temporary neutral will not work. As soon as you open the door or many other things it automatically puts it in park. I have to ride thru the car wash with my hybrid. Normally I would turn it over to the car wash guys and they vacuum and put it on the track to go thru the car wash. I can't do that anymore.
Sorry for the late reply but that kinda sucks. There is one that I go to that while on a track it is hand washed. Also how bout if you need to push your car. Or have it in neutral if you need a flatbed or something. If it automatically goes into park when you exit the vehicle with no over ride sucks.

Sorry I think this has been asked before but…. Just got my hybrid XLT, never had auto start / stop.
I read on the forum while back if you run thru the car wash you need to but your truck in a certain mode?? My nightmare is being stuck in the car wash 😵💫. And no there are no touchless washes near me.
the A button disables that mode
