The gas engine is stopped and started repeatedly in a hybrid and provides instantaneous power. A traditional engine runs steadily at a low RPM. The hybrid engine thus gets more of an off/on workout. I agree with the others who go with a 5,000 interval. You do what you want and we'll do what we feel is prudent. Decided am not going to call anyone who feels otherwise any names but expect the same in return.
I agree with your opinion here. Reading all these posts on this subject has given a guy a lot to think about. The ICE in a hybrid runs less, but I think 10K is too long for today's manufacturing standards. I'll go with 5K interval.

Yes, oil is better (I'm retired from the oil and gas industry) but it's not even a question of how good the oil is. It's a question of contaminants. Your response is the perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
What is Dunning -Kruger affect? I would care to learn.
On the subject at hand, I am also very curious to learn more. My first experience with a 10K interval was a mid 2000 Harley, I thought I'm not stretching it anywhere close to that. On the other hand, I recently sold a mid 2000 Jeep that I may or may not have neglected to 20K! (I'm OCD about documentation, but possibly lost one or even two oil change). When I did change it, the oil looked just fine and had been running very well (as well as Jeeps run).

10,000 miles or 12 months - whichever comes first. Many folks just consider miles but not months. And if you drive in adverse conditions, Ford recommends halving the miles/months. I’m not familiar at all with the Hybrid ICE - but I wouldn’t be surprised if can take more abuse than the “Eco Boom” 💥 😁
Unless I am mistaken, the 12 mo issue has a lot to do with heat/cold cycles. If you have the luxury of garage parking or live in a dry climate, condensation doesn't degrade your oil very much and normal driving will get the water vapor out on it's own.

Dunning-Kruger = through believing anyone wearing a mask? 😂

Dunning-Kruger effect is not a mechanical term, it's kind of like not knowing what you don't know and assuming you do know. What I believe to be true on oil changes is it is a lot like saying you should drink 2.7 liters of water a day. Well, if you're a female in a temperate environment, you're fine but, if you're a male in an arid environment-not so good. Climate, quality of fuel, towing and driving habits are better indicators of when to change oil than an arbitrary number set. In fact, I've never seen a vehicle manual that didn't state this.

I had a dealer tell me they are recommending an oil change every 5,000 miles because they are seeing sludge build up at 45,000 miles.
Well seen by MANY youtube videos . Especially the turbo engine which have this tiny screen in oil feed line that clogs causing turbo to fail and bearings come out into engine. All with 7500 oil change and yes right around 60 K. NOT on mav, too new, but Ranger and F150 engines. . BUT all highway miles does change oil life.

BUT hey if the manual say 10 K then be silly enough to do that. I have SEEN what happens myself when I worked at chevy dealer following manual. . Granted 20 years a ago. BUT they weren't 10K but I think maybe 6 or 7 k which clogged the engines up bad. Oil gets dirty the same as it always has. Oils can only hold so much dirt in suspension,. Oils are not magic today.

BUT this is silly. The argument it will go on until there is no gas/oil left for ICE engines. Then we can argue over when to change the battery or hydrogen fuel cell or..... . .........................................

True, and someday AI will tell you by zip code what your suggested oil change time/mile interval will be. Maybe analyze your driving habits too.

In the meantime, Ford recommends 12mo/10,000mi for generic location & perfect driving and 6mo/5,000mi for folks who drive normal & read the small print.

Don't all the Mavericks have an Oil Life Monitor that the manual actually says to follow, and if that got reset and you don't know the start point, the max is 12m/10k, recommended 6m/5k, unless you have the extreme driving conditions which aren't that extreme really?

And does anyone actually following the OLM and anything beyond gentle low mileage driving - actually reach 10K miles or a year?
(seen plenty of posts for EB's where that would be a no)

Now - just saw a youtuber mechanic discuss the Ford OLM when it was around 80% and he was attempting to do the math - did it poorly for one thing.
He also didn't know that at some point during the drop on the gentle side of driving it hones in on the 1 yr and not the 10K anymore - seen that from multiple posters. Also seen several giving their story where it seemed to be aiming for 10K until midpoint, then quick nosedive to barely above 5K, for the EB's.

Interesting how many arguing against something that actually isn't a thing.
Like Chik-fi-a makes terrible burgers. No, great burgers.

Excessive “gentle low mileage driving” wreaks havoc on oil and Ford considers that a “Severe Driving Condition”. Along with hot weather climates. Recommends 3,000-5,000 oil change intervals.

Exactly. We use our Maverick almost exclusively for short around town driving and we live in the hot Mojave desert. Both fit into the extremes that the manual and Ford refer to with a recommendation of an oil change every 5,000 miles or 1 year.

I’m currently at 113 in the Sonoran Desert - although that is probably “sweater weather” for you:)

Not for Hybrids. You need to be powertrain specific. 😀

Yes for Hybrids. In fact, the Atkinson Cycle Engine found in Hybrids is especially susceptible to oil dilution. More so than the EB actually. Please don’t make me call ICE Protective Services on you.

Our record temperature here all time was 118F. Have only reached 110F this year. Supposed to be 108F this Thursday.
