They also debate gun oil & cleaning intervals. Some clean & oil more often than others - regardless of calibers:)
Depends on the gun. My glock? 500rds at the earliest, if im bored. The python gets cleaned every time though. Have to keep it shiny.

Just like our trucks, different engines, different usage, and different owners. You really can trust the oil life interval on the truck though. It knows all sorts of things we dont, like how many times oil temperature went over a certain threshold for example.

Was the 10k oil significantly discolored?

That’s the Blackstone oil analysis I want to see: the first change at 10k miles.
A few of them already posted.
No need to wait!

It would be great if the Maverick tracked oil temperate - but I don’t think the Maverick even has oil temperate sensors. Folks seem to think the “oil life” is only a mileage/time indicator?

I'd be shocked if it didn't have those sensors.

You seen the list of PID's available for display on a scanner like Forscan?

I'll find out tonight if it's available under hybrid.

So true, we've had many meaningful posts giving stats as to why it can't just be mileage/time - unless you are a gentle low mileage driver just hitting the max.

I go by miles and/or time. Since we don't drive the Mav as much (the F-150 does the long trips since we need the space) I try not to go more than six months between oil changes.

10,000 miles is fairly common these days. I know I owned a Toyota 10 years ago that had the same interval.

You're probably going to get some hate (it's already started) about this interval, but ignore it. Anecdotal crap is meaningless. I ran 13,000 mile intervals, as was the recommendation from Benz, on a 4-cylinder Mercedes in from 2005-2012 covering 150,000 miles. I had the oil analyzed every other change, the last time being in the 140k range. Every single analysis came back that I could go longer on the oil if I wanted. If I'd listened to the doomsayers on the internet back then I'd have changed the oil 2x as often for absolutely no reason.

So, enjoy your long intervals as a luxury. If you have any concerns, have the oil analyzed for confirmation that you're doing no harm, but do not pay mind to the 3000-5000 oil interval internet trolls that are everywhere on car forums.
No , way unless it's all HWY miles. For what it cost for an oil analysis I could do another oil change. Just because the manual says so doesn't mean you should .

Even if it doesn't directly sense oil temp, it definitely infers it based on cylinder head temp. Time and mileage are definitely the two main factors, but there are certainly others.

Yep.

Here's a piece of what the ECU is tracking - the values are off because this was free scanner app and it was either based on other Ford hybrids not recent like Maverick, or just recent Fords - but the tracking is there by the description names.
This was during app testing where I decided on Forscan being worth it.
I just can't find the same thing there - unless this is just from a ton of PID's I haven't bothered with.
Below was from a read of the module.

OBD-II
ECU protocol: 6) ISO 15765-4 CAN (11 bit ID, 500 kbaud)
ECU address/CAN Id: 7E8
VIN: 3FTTW8H30RRxxxx
Run Time for Stop-Start and Coasting Off-cycle Credit Vehicle Data:
Idle Stop-Start Timer (Recent) [seconds]: 16777236
Idle Stop-Start Timer (Lifetime) [seconds]: -33553380
Engine Running Coasting Timer (Recent) [seconds]: 1442840575
Engine Running Coasting Timer (Lifetime) [seconds]: -1
Engine Off Coasting Timer (Recent) [seconds]: -1
Engine Off Coasting Timer (Lifetime) [seconds]: -1

Vehicle Operation Data - Engine Run/Idle Time:
Ignition Counter (Recent): 16777216
Ignition Counter (Lifetime): 268435460
Fueled Engine Operation Ignition Cycle Counter (Recent) [seconds]: 1610612736
Fueled Engine Operation Ignition Cycle Counter (Lifetime) [seconds]: 251658243
Total Engine Run Time (Recent) [seconds]: -436207604
Total Engine Run Time (Lifetime) [seconds]: 2097152939
Total Idle Engine Run Time (Recent) [seconds]: 603979777
Total Idle Engine Run Time (Lifetime) [seconds]: 100663388

And I was wrong about the Oil Temp PIDs - I saw a PID to enable it to be displayed on IPC, but no PID with a reading - so I think a bad PID.
Here's the other fun ones to get though.

To me it seems just…wrong…to have the luxury of changing oil every 10k miles. But that’s what the manual says. I did go with full synthetic. I figure with such an infrequent interval, who cares if it’s expensive.

I also rotated the tires for first time. I used to do it every 5k. But some mechanics and websites say UP TO 10K as well. So it makes sense to do it at same time as oil change.

Loving this Maverick!

I had a dealer tell me they are recommending an oil change every 5,000 miles because they are seeing sludge build up at 45,000 miles.

Excessive Cylinder Head temperature after shutting off your car would definitely correlate with a 1500degree turbo cooking the oil sitting motionless in it - but is that in the “oil life” algorithm? Be thorough if it was - but I’m not counting on it.

Just my opinion but i think 10,000 miles between oil changes is a little long.but thats just my opinion.
Not for a hybrid as they are not all ICE miles.

10,000 miles or 12 months - whichever comes first. Many folks just consider miles but not months. And if you drive in adverse conditions, Ford recommends halving the miles/months. I’m not familiar at all with the Hybrid ICE - but I wouldn’t be surprised if can take more abuse than the “Eco Boom” 💥 😁

Thought I was going to see the original break-in Oil, after 10k miles.

Zero sympathy for the planet or future generations of the human race, though? 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, if you're serious about that interval, your oil will never be anything even close to "toasty." ;)
I recently read (I just read, didn't research.) that way back to the Exon Valdez incident, that the beaches that got the Dawn treatment did not recover as well as the areas that did get contaminated but were not easily accessible and therefore not "cleaned up".
