I have been driving over 50 years and never owned a Hybrid; I have also worked in the automotive field for over 40 years, am retired about 9 years.
My question is: I have a 25 hybrid Lariat AWD, 4K tow, 1500 miles from a dead start almost every time I hear a click/ mild thud coming from under the vehicle, you can almost feel it on the floorboard, is it the transmission engaging, is it normal, having delt with so many rattles and noises over the years am worried a transmission or axle or driveshaft or is it normal. The average person may not even notice it but I do.
So before I go to the dealer and ask them to look at it, I know what they're going to say, leave it we will look at it, there parking lot scares the hell out of me, you know what I mean if you the type that parks in the furthest spot from the store to stay away from everyone. Please tell me its normal!

Hard to determine from a distance.
Even more difficult without video/audio.
Try to record it and post the recording if you can.

Very very good chance it is normal.
The hybrids do, by design make a lot of "unusual" noises.

From a complete stop, my understanding is the AWD in the Maverick does briefly engage the rear wheels, and I'd venture to guess you're hearing the PTU (transfer case) engage. - There was no AWD on the Hybrid until '25, so mine is only FWD.

My second suspicion would be you're hearing the ICE startup, since it would be off while sitting still in many cases. Does it make the same sound if the ICE is already running, say while it didn't turn off at a stop due to not at a sufficient operating temperature? - I mention that as there's also apparently a slight squeal or noise either starting or stopping the ICE when driving with the '25, which wasn't present in the 22-24 models. (25s use an updated eCVT).

To test above suggestions, while sitting in park and ICE NOT running - push the gas pedal down far enough and it will start.
See if you feel anything in the pedal or truck then.

That way when you switch to Drive, hopefully on level surface - you may notice that AWD aspect if that's it.

its a 2025, make use of the warranty and get it checked out, if the dealer has an AWD ecoboost, ask to test drive that & see if there's the same feeling

My guess is that you are hearing/feeling the engine start.

It always starts out in electric till about 30 mph, thanks for helping don't think so. Sounds like it's coming from under the console area.

Mine doesn't do that

When I'm driving and the ICE starts I can't really feel it, it's totally seamless and I only hear the sound + faint vibrations from the engine

What startles me a bit is when I'm parked with the truck "ready" & the A/C running electrically, when the engine starts (to recharge the battery) it pitches the truck slightly and that feels really weird. I guess it's either because of the mass of the "starter", or because it's starting unexpectedly, but it feels different from any other vehicle I've had

It's so minor would be impossible to video or audio, the passenger doesn't hear or feel it. I was thinking there are lots of guys with similar truck they might hear the same noise, it's only from a dead stop feels like something is taking up slack for a second then fine while driving.

My 25 makes some sounds my 22 didn’t. Im thinking it’s the updated transmission and the AWD system. It also has a vibration that my 22 didn’t. I want to figure that one out. I got new tires and it didn’t go away so not sure what it could be. Out of balance drive shaft? Bad motor mounts?

This only happens the first foot the vehicle moves like something is taking up slack, like maybe transfer case or transmission or axle it could be normal.

If you're making it to 30mph before your engine starts, then you must be accelerating incredibly sloooow.

If theres no one behind you isn't that what you should do, I do 90% local driving. Am in no rush, I don't hold up traffic if there is any, I never drive in rush hour, did that for 50 years no more, paid my dues. Used to drive 1 to 2 hours each way and bad weather could take me 3 hours to get home. Don't wish that on any of you young guys/girls. Not complaining to much always made good money and had company cars.

I have a 2024 Lariat hybrid, so no AWD. My first hybrid too. It makes odd sounds. In the garage at the end of a drive, it's so quiet I sometimes forget to turn it off. But as long as it runs well, which it does, I chalk it up to hybrid sounds and do not worry about it.
