Am i the only one on here that doesn’t like auto hold feature

Same with me but I can take it or leave it. I do use it from time to time but not all that often.

It is a great feature. I use it all the time. Since you can disable it, this isn't really worth debating.

Yes it's a bit on the level of complaining about the highbeams because when you pull up to your white garage doors with them on, you get dazzled, well ...... don't

“Smooth” is relative. When parking in my garage, the auto hold doesn’t want me to let me creep. It brings me to a stop. And once stopped, I can’t get it to move forward until I hit the throttle. And hitting the throttle is going to give way more velocity than simply easing up off of the brake when auto hold is turned off.

Auto hold is smooth enough for driving in city traffic. But it is not smooth enough for parking in my garage.

Again, I have never used the feature, but it seems to me that its entire purpose is to prevent creeping, hence the "hold" in its name.

It’s still not smooth. I had a Porsche with the pdk trans and the hold function worked perfectly and I could use it to park in my garage. It would let me creep without forcing me to come to a stop. And when stopped, if I lightly touched the throttle, the engine rpm would come up by 100 rpm and it would gently start to creep again.

If I do that with the Maverick, it stays stopped and does not respond to the light throttle input. I need to actually tip the throttle in, bringing the rpm up by 200-300 before it will start to move forward. And then it surges forward by a minimum of 6 inches, which then forces me to slam on my brakes, rather than gently creeping.

Other car makers have their hill hold mastered. Ford does not. That’s why there’s 8 pages of people complaining about it.

Nope, I absolutely hate it! Turn it off every time I get in. A useless feature in my way of thinking.

Sure it's relative, and as I mentioned before my use of auto hold is limited to a small number of situations. My uses involve holding the vehicle motionless without brakes and then releasing (smoothly) when I accelerate forward. The situation you describe makes sense, but is not something I haven't ever encountered because I would never switch it on for that purpose. I don't experience a "jerk" when auto hold releases as he states, so that's why I replied to @rivermaverick's comment.

I don't see much evidence of that. There haven't been many people in this thread that have mentioned their distaste for auto hold being a result of it not being smooth when creeping, so I doubt that's the reason there's 8 pages of discussion on the topic. It's likely that many people in this thread have not previously owned a vehicle that has auto hold, and thus have not owned one from a manufacturer that has "mastered" the system. I don't think many people transition to a Maverick from a Porsche.

I suspect that most dislike it because they find it foreign to the way they've always operated a vehicle.

I don't like or use it either.
Seems like it would get the driver used to letting the brake go and who knows they might do it at the wrong time thinking the feature is on. Just my thoughts on that.

My 24 Eco too. It’s always OFF unless I turn it ON, (which I only do to see if it still works). Otherwise, never use it,Yet.

Nope, not referring to hill descent control or hill start assist. Start assist is automatically activated when it senses that you’ll roll backwards if you let off of the brake when in a forward gear. If in reverse, it will automatically engage if it senses that you would roll forwards. It is not defeat-able. It would not spontaneously activate when trying to do precise positioning in your relatively flat garage and it only lasts for a second, designed to fill the lag between lifting off the brake and applying the throttle.

I only use it in the drive-thru and to knock off the rust on the rear rotors. I live in the rust belt and noticed last winter that the rear brake rotors were completely rusted on the braking surfaces. I used the auto hold for a couple of days, and most of the rust came off. It is still rusty, and I noticed grooves in the rotors, too. When I first used the auto hold on the rusty rotors, the start-up lurch was very noticeable. After the drive home, it was much less lurchy.
