Agreed. I was a little envious of the B&O system before I saw this, now I am glad I didn’t invest the $$ in this system. That sub looks pretty weak.
It's not like the upgraded stereo is a stand alone option. I went Lux for several reasons and the B&O is just one of them.

I plan on putting a sub in the under seat storage and the B&O being pre-wired is going to save me some time.

Exactly! That’s the whole problem with this BS package system concept that we all have to deal with now

Personally, I've given up on making cars sound good. It's acoustically a terrible place to listen to music; too many reflective surfaces and too much background noise.
Interestingly enough, I was watching a Foo Fighters documentary (I think it was the one where they were recording Wasting Light in Dave Grohl's garage). When recording, they take their mixes and go out to one of their vehicles (one of them is apparently notorious for having an old, broken down car with a crap sound system) and they listen to the mix in the car. If they can mix it to sound good there, then they move on. It makes sense (at least to an average person with no knowledge of acoustics) as vehicles are where the majority of people listen to music, so why not mix your music to make sure it sounds the acceptable in that environment?

Yeah, I had originally ordered the Lariat primarily for the B&O. I really didn't like the B&O's seating material, the dashboard display, and other items. Switched to an XLT Lux and looking forward to updating the audio beyond what the B&O offers (I can live without HD radio).

Do you guys think that amp is providing as much power as the speakers and subs can handle? Could simply installing a higher power and better quality amp make for a noticeable upgrade in sound quality?

I'm also curious about the amp, but in the opposite direction. How much do you think the b&o amp could handle for upgraded speakers if I just wanted to replace the 4 door speakers?

I don't have the B&O in my Mav, but I just upgraded my base audio and I don't think they are that different in the end. The way the amp does signal processing and some other tricks make it difficult to just replace for another plug and play option. The front speakers are the same in both systems and in my opinion they are the weakest link.

If you want a better sub, the B&O amp will not be able to handle it, you may be able to use the signal from the B&O and a "preamp" and add a powered sub, but I think it's just easier to replace with new amps and speakers if you get to that point.

I first upgraded the speakers and added deadening material to mine and that alone made a lot of difference in quality and clarity. I then added a small 50wx4 amp to the speakers and it made the biggest improvement. At last I added a small sub and it just completed the audio.

Nice try, just like BMW's, Lexus, Ford's B&O amp is proprietary to the system, you can't add a different amp. This is why it is easier to add a system to the standard system.

Ford's B&O amp is proprietary to the system, you can't add a different amp, it will not...

I'll be building some sort of enclosure to go under the seats similar to the one I have in my F150 currently
I enjoy feeling my music too much to ever deal with a factory sub....
I gave zero thought to the B&O when ordering the LUX package

It would be great to be able to order ala mode but then every truck would take even longer to build

Would be interesting to see how you use another amp with your B&O system.

I guess we will see in like 6 months
Having been in the Car Audio business with Rockford Fosgate for 10 yrs I still have well-connected people in the industry, car manufacturers with a proprietary to the system make it impossible to do an upgrade. When I had my LS460 the Mark Levenson amp went out, contact my friends at RF to get a new amp, can't be done. Had to find a used ML amp for the Lexus.

So have fun with your project, this is why I didn't get the Lux package, upgrading the standard system is the easiest way to go.
