Glad to watch this test, I guess if I'm off-roading it's because I drove off road by accident. I'll be on dry pavement all the time, except for the maybe 10 snow/ice storms we get in Mass. I'm old school and still believe in four studded snows on my vehicle for the winter months. Hoping this maverick will get me to and from my 3 mile commute.

For reference I'm awaiting my delivery of a 2025 xlt, hybrid, AWD

Simply adding mud and ruts via Forscan levels the playing field.

Hybrid should have more than 200 lb ft of torque available to it at initial throttle input.
2025 doesn't have Mud & Ruts

Tremor comes with Mud/Ruts and Sand mode which means those can be activated via Forscan and also the new “off road” mode.

Its a thing called having a much different drive/train and transmission- Is that hard to understand ? Stop comparing apples to donuts --
It is extremely hard to understand because the engine and transmission are not the AWD system. The 8F35 nor eco boost make an ounce of difference in the slip test.

TFL did not slip test an FX4 but they compared an EB to the Santa Cruz and the same wheel slip occurs when they lift a tire.

Again. It is the same exact AWD system.

I’m done trying to explain it to you. I’m happy you’re happy with your FX4 and believe it has some magical capabilities over any other AWD Maverick, escape, or bronco sport.

I do wonder if that is something that could be updated via OTA software update because of lot of it seemed very much the vehicle being able to but not knowing what to do.
wondering the same thing in another thread where this video and one with the rav4 hybrid was posted. in some of these tests there doesn't seem to be anything mechanical/physics based that would stop the vehicles from performing better.

Tommy did say in the video that he was surprised because the Bronco Sport performed better. Maybe the ruts weren't as profound.

As others said, it wasn't due to choice of tires in this video.

Tire tread has zero effect when your tire is up in the air.

The "problem" was.... the truck was not applying brake, or enough brake, to the tire in the air.
I'm still fully convinced that ford is intentionally gimping the torque vectoring so they can sell more fx4 and tremor packages. It's literally as simple as making it apply the brakes more to the free spinning wheel.

as a thought experiment, if the base awd did almost as good as an fx4 or tremor in these kinds of tests without the limited slip diff, then what would peoples incentives be to buy them? a skid plate? you'd just get a base mav, throw some all terrains on it, call it a day and ford would lose that juicy 300% markup. They absolutely have the motivation to gimp the AWD system on the mav.

FX4 provides skid plates, AT tires, hill descent, upgraded radiator cooling capacity, and tow hooks. Plus some drive modes that can be added to other models via Forscan.

It’s a nice package but it doesn’t alter or improve upon the standard AWD system. Until they slip test an FX4 you’re all falsely assuming it will perform any better.

did you add me to your ignore list or what? if so someone else can reply with this so you see it, but YOU actually commented first in this thread about those drive modes being removed and replaced with off-road for 2025. then magically you forget about that and start a new argument?
Interesting it appears for 2025 "off-road" mode has replaced both Mud/Ruts and Sand.
here's the symbols for 2025. I didn't bother screenshotting the explanation of these drive modes, you can look it up.

That was the Bronco Sport Badlands. It has a different AWD system. It's a twin clutch rear drive unit with advanced 4x4 Trail Control. Basically the same as the Tremor. All the other versions of the Bronco Sport have the same AWD as the non Tremor Mavericks.

You are correct. He did say Badland.

... trying to do offroading in a vehicle that was never meant to do any. It makes as much sense as going skating on a bicycle. 😁
Until the last summer, I had an AWD Subaru Legacy - an amazing city car that does extremely well in most severe city/highway driving conditions. Would anyone in sound mind take it on an off-roading test? No. Same applies to that Maverick.
Call me insane then. :D But really I was just a teenager in Wyoming who's hand me down car was a 12yr old Subaru wagon. It had true 4wd and the spare tire was next to the carberator LOLOLOLOL.
That car could go ANYWHERE even on bad tires. Low low 1st gear and low power engine meant it crawled up lots of stuff my truck-driving buddies thought would be impossible....

what! must have been a 2.2L if you didn't have the blown headgasket issue that pretty much every early 2.5L developed sooner or later.

I had a '99 Impreza 2.5RS manual. Didn't miss it a bit once I got a '03 Evo8. :D
