are the 2024 maverick hybrids ecvt too?
All the Maverick Hybrids are eCVT. 2/3 less moving parts than a conventional automatic transmission with their multiple gears, torque converters, and all the other crap that goes wrong with them. The eCVT doesn't shift and it doesn't even need a reverse, because the electric motor takes care of that by simply reversing rotation when you put the truck in R.

I feel your pain. I to had my trans replaced in October. At 71k. As crazy as this is, it is in for another one. The replacement needed replacing at only 3k. Slipped and literally banged into gears.
So now I'm waiting for it to be completed. Apparently these transmissions are NOT readily available and take a bit to get after you finally get authorization from warranty to go ahead. Luckily I'm in a loaner.
I said a while back that I thought the 8F35 was going to be the Maverick's Achilles...the lifetime fluid designation from Ford is a joke (it's good for the lifetime of the transmission, not your lifetime) and the Ecoboost engine torque rating is at the threshold the 8F35 was designed for. Ford also has terrible history with these transmissions. I got my 6F35 to last 150k with no problems by changing the fluid every 30k. People on the escape forums called me all kinds of names and claimed it was overkill but it was relatively cheap insurance and I saw a lot of people who bought into the lifetime fluid nonsense replacing their trans at the 75k-100k mark

I figured you meant miles, I'm the odd one out in this forum living in the land of kilometers.
I live in both Sonora MX and Arizona US below I-10 (I-19 between Tucson and the border is marked in km), so alot of kms. 😉

I must have been really lucky then. my 09 AWD I recall only having the fluid changed once at around 100k, and I purchased it in 2011 with 14k on it. Drove it until I traded it in for my Maverick in Oct 23. I put just shy of 250k on it with no tranny issues and no real issues other than wear/tear things. engine/trans held up the best but the rust was killing it. unibody was falling apart.

I got what you were saying but it’s not true to paint with such a broad brush stroke.

Honda offered a CRZ with a manual (and earlier civics) and then I’m pretty sure that Hyundai/Kia has offered their hybrids with a DCT so there are different flavors but yes the eCVT is most popular.
Yeah, those sandwich an electric motor unit between the engine and transmission. Likewise the F-150 Powerboost and Explorer hybrid aren't (e)CVT. The non-manual transmission Hondas aren't CVTs either; they only have a fixed gear ratio and primarily operate in Series Hybrid mode.

If anything there are almost as many manufacturers not using eCVT hybrids as there are ones that do (Toyota, Ford, Subaru, Chrysler).

I almost bought the 2017 Tucson instead of my 2017 Escape but there were some issues with the automatic dual clutch where it would internally get stuck in neutral or something similar while merging on the highway so I went with the Escape instead.
We intended to buy a 2018 Escape as my wife had been driving Escapes for years and we were trading in her 2010 model we bought from the same dealer. However, the dealer wasn't able to match the price on the Tuscon, not even close, to the tune of $4K more. When I asked the dealer why we should buy a less well equipped Escape with a 36 month warranty (Hyundai had 10 yrs/100K mile warranty) for $4K more, they shrugged. So we went down the road 2 miles and got more vehicle (seriously, and I'm a Ford guy) for $4K less. Big picture, the Hyundai was a good vehicle, very comfortable, refined, well equipped and didn't have any issues... until the engine failed. Then I'm glad we had the 10yr/100K mileage warranty. We never had any issues with the transmission you referred to. When we went shopping for a new car last fall, my wife liked the Mazda the best of all the cars we looked at. It's her car, she drives it, so it's her decision.

Honestly I think with all the cuts to quality to save money they all suck anymore. Even the Toyotas are starting to have problems lol

Hello everyone, happy new year! What a better way to start the year than with a transmission that slips like a toddler on ice?

At just about 64,500 km / 40,000 mi my transmission began slipping. It was very sudden, only took 3 days to go from slight slip every once in a while from a dead stop to having to floor the damn thing to get the truck moving and being damn near impossible to go up inclines at slow speeds.

Thanks to the many other posts here I knew I was doomed. I took the video below before going straight to the dealer, which was thankfully only 1 minute away. Sorry for recording while driving but I needed evidence lol.

The dealer took my truck on December 17, next day the advisor said corporate at Hermosillo sent over some tuning files for the transmission that did nothing, and were awaiting for further replies. Yesterday they finally asked me if I authorized them to drop the tranny, as it would be like 1,000 dollars in labor if it isn't covered under warranty. I'm glad I bought the extended warranty. (1,000 dollars is kind of outrageous at Mexican labor costs if it seems not so bad lol)

Any backstory? Mods,towing etc.

Just reinforces my belief, having owned several Fords over five decades, never to own one past initial warranty coverage. Even if I'd purchased an extended warranty, it wouldn't be worth the hassle to me. The clock is ticking, as my 2022 Mav is at 31,000 miles now.

Don't hate me for this, but I'm actually leaning towards trying out the 2025 Santa Cruz. Oh, go ahead and hate on that. I'm cool with it. The main thing giving me second thoughts is that I'd get an SEL and lose a solid 60 HP. And I love my ecoboost's power (on the rare occasion I use it).

C'mon Ford! Stop me before it's too late. Show me your new electric small truck at one of this year's auto shows.
Wait and see what Toyota comes out with, I'm sure theres something on the way.

I was waiting, for years. decided just to get a Maverick, ticks everything I need, and buying a extended esp seems like logical way to “Toyotafy” it in terms reliability lol

I posted here long ago, the issue I had with my Transit Connect ecoboost, w/same powertrain. Went out 1200 miles-ish, from end of warranty. Dealer told me it was fine. Thats one of the reasons I went with the hybrid.

Also depends on the techs installing said brand new transmission.

No mods, no towing, never carried enough passengers in the cab and weight in the bed to reach the rated gross weight, never maxed the payload weight, very mild softroading as I need to use dirt roads often, helped 5 friends move furniture :)
