Does anyone have a video or instructions on how to open up the dash by the defrost vents? I have a rattle coming from the drivers side defrost vent that I cannot stop from the outside no matter what I try. My truck has 3500 miles on it and it's been getting progressively worse since new.

It sounds like two pieces of plastic are rubbing against each other in there. I've tried stuffing shims between the black and blue plastics, I've shoved weather stripping in there, felt, metal shims, everything. Some things slightly improve the issue, but nothing has fixed it.

I reached out to two local dealerships for warranty repairs and either get ghosted or they tell me they can't get it in until late November. My confidence level in them actually caring and fixing the problem is zero anyways.

If I put my hand on the black defrost vent and pull it towards me, the noise goes away. Its something about the interaction with that black vent and something in the dash itself.

So, I would like to possibly open up the dash and troubleshoot myself. Before I go breaking anything, does anyone have a video or instructions on how to get in there? Thanks!

The sound in your video is exactly what I’m experiencing in my ‘24 Lariat EB.

This video sounds exactly like my truck. Such a shame because I love everything else about it. I took mine to the dealer, they pulled the dash off, inserted some adhesive felt strips. It muffled the noise a little bit, but it's still there. I'm thinking about calling them for another appointment. Has anyone found a resolution?

I solved the problem on my truck. It's a pretty janky fix, but it's effective. I tried several other ways and nothing fixed it but this.

The core issue on mine is the black defog ductwork rubbing on the bottom of the dash plastic. It's a plastic on plastic rubbing noise, and I think its caused by them not being connected to each other and moving separately.

My solution is to use a toggle bolt with an extra toggle screwed on to it in the opposite direction to use it as a custom-sized "spreader" of sorts. I have it put pressure on the blue dash piece on the back side, and then wedge it down into the black defog duct on the front side. As a result it puts enough pressure on the two points to stop the rubbing. Like I said, it's janky but it's super effective, at least in my case. The piece wedged against the blue dash in my pic has a piece of electrical tape on it just to cut down on the shininess.

Yes! !!! to the determination that the noise is related to the HVAC duct to the defog vent. I describe my noise as a rumble over rough surfaces including Bots Dots on highway lanes. It wan't really a rattle.

That is what I determined with mine but I sold my 22 EB when my 24 hybrid arrived. So I never addressed it. My 24 EB does not have that or any dash noise.

👍
At least now I know where to look for the source of my rattle.
Thank you.

Sometimes it's nice being half deaf. I can't hear most rattles anymore. My wife's bronco sport has one that drives her nuts, but it's random. I can't try to locate it cause I can't hear a damn thing.

I'm hearing this same rattle in my 2025 Lariat. It's disappointing to buy a brand-new Ford and have it make this noise from scratch.

I don't feel like taking it to the dealership at all; it's 100 km away. And I also don't accept a new car that has to sit for days at Ford's to remove the dashboard.

Has anyone managed to resolve this issue?

First, is the noise a rumble over rough surfaces or a rattle, more like metal or plastic hitting each other or a stray fastener bouncing around?

SSM 52431 / TSB 24-2317 for 2022-2024 Mavs addresses this issue. It may apply to '25's as well.

Basically it requires putting a foam block or blocks as a spacer between the defrost vent and the [underside] of the dash top. The rumble sound comes when these two come in contact. It is easy to apply the fix to the passenger side but I would choose a top notch dealer since the driver's side is very hard to access.

I've already researched this, and it seems that this TBS doesn't fix the problem, as it comes from the defrost vents.

Has anyone managed to solve this? Exactly the same issue here, Lariat 2025.

My noise, by the way, does not come from this part but from the driver's side defroster.
Unfortunately rattles have been a problem that have plagued the Maverick. There's a lot of additional threads at the bottom of the page.
Good luck
