I'm not one for doing videos, but I try to document installs whenever possible. I bought the Rexing V1P-4K dashcam while my Maverick was still on order, so I'd have it when the pickup got here. I wasn't planning on it taking two weeks to get it installed. Before this install, I had the V1P from the Equinox I totaled installed using the 12v power socket as a temporary fix.

The install took about an hour, since I was trying to be careful not to break anything. I would also highly recommend getting a set of plastic trim tools.. You will need them and they're cheap.

First pic is of packaging. As stated, I got the Rexing V1p-4K dashcam, with both front and rear facing cameras. I also purchased the Rexing smart hardwire kit. The only thing I had to purchase separately, were two Littelfuse Micro2 add-a-circuit fuse holders. I got one in the hardwire kit, but the fuse orientation was different than the Littlefuse ones and I wanted them to be the same. I also bought a pack of blue female bullet connectors, to connect the kit wiring to the new add-a circuits. Here's the add-a-circuits I got:

Here's the packaging for the camera and the hardwire kit:

Here's the new fuse taps with the female bullet connectors installed.

I started by mounting the camera behind the rear-view camera and within reach while driving. I then pulled the cover from the factory driver assist camera, to help facilitate wire routing. It has four of the standard Ford friction clips holding it up. If you ever wondered what's behind the cover, here ya go!

Ford Maverick Rexing V1P-4K dashcam hardwire install w/pics [DIY writeup instructions] IMG_2665

One of the clips has a lanyard, to keep it from coming completely off. It ended up getting in my way, so I disconnected it. Here's what it looks like:

I always start at the camera, when I run wires. It just works better for me. I used a trim tool and pulled the headliner down just enough to get the wire on top of it.

Ford Maverick Rexing V1P-4K dashcam hardwire install w/pics [DIY writeup instructions] IMG_2668

When I got to the corner, I used the trim tool to get the A-pillar cover to open up just a bit.

Transitioning from the headliner to the A-pillar cover was a little tricky, but nothing any of you guys/gals couldn't handle!

Then around and under the weatherstrip..

I tried to keep it behind the A-pillar cover, so it would come out where I needed it to and it did!

I forgot to mention that I removed the side cover, fuse block cover and the glovebox. The glovebox isn't totally necessary, but it helped me see exactly what I was doing.

I routed the wire down and shoved it through, just in front of the orange wire bundle.

Ford Maverick Rexing V1P-4K dashcam hardwire install w/pics [DIY writeup instructions] IMG_2672

BTW: When I removed the side panel, I had to lift it off this white trim connector. If anyone has a good way to reassemble using this connector, I'm all ears!

Ford was nice enough to leave this white wire holder for me, so I used it!

I routed the power wire along with one of the factory bundles and zip tied it to them. I promise, I cut the tails off the zip ties. That's one of my peeves...

The extra 4' of wiring left over, fit nicely in the void space to the left:

I chose fuses 3 and 20 for my add-a-circuits. They fit and didn't interfere with each other.

The ground wire fits wonderfully on the bolt at the bottom of the fuse block.

I then plugged the rear camera into the front one and routed it to the back glass. It's much the same as previously noted. Once routed and extra wiring stuffed above the headliner, just button everything back up and enjoy your new dashcam! Here are a couple of finished install pics:

Here's the exact reason I use a dashcam.. This is what totaled our Equinox and tore up my shoulder..

Man the future is great, I remember perusing forums in the 90s where you had to download the pictures without knowing what it was first and the quality was impossibly terrible.

Edit: Saw your video afterwards, classic example of a wreck that could be a coin toss for whatever officer shows up. Good to have the video

Wanted to ask, why not go with an OBD style cam? Not complaining I'm just curious because that seems like the path of least resistance.

sorry double post, didn't think you'd notice it if I just edited in.

I prefer this cam.. Love the features..

I guess it just boils down to personal preference.

Oh that's good, I was wondering if there's some really important reason not to use the OBD port like that or something.

I haven't really shopped around so who knows maybe I'll hate the OBD ones or something. Mostly I just want one to avoid those nightmare scenarios so if it records continuously and can export to my phone I'll be happy.

That's one of the features I like about these. They have built-in wifi that you connect your phone to. You can change some settings, see live views and pull video. Had a Fedex truck sideswipe a parked vehicle in front of me two years ago. I was able to pull the video to my phone and share it to the cop working the accident.

The only thing you did wrong I would say is crossing the wire above the A-pillar trim airbag.. It needs to go under - which best option is to pull the A-pillar off and route the cable correctly.

Thanks for the writeup.
I'm hard wiring my dash cam in tomorrow.
I'm wiring my dash cam with on/off wiring only, so I'll only need one 'add a circuit' holder.
I was surprised at how hard it was to find Micro2 fuses and circuit holder in my small town.
I could have ordered them from Amazon, but it was going to take 2/3 weeks to get them and I didn't want to wait.

Nice write-up! I have a dash cam (front-facing only) in my Subaru, but it's plugged into the accessory port. I would like to hard-wire into the Mav, but I'll probably have a local place do it - they installed my car starter and also do tinting, car audio systems etc.. I haven't gotten a quote from them on dash cam installation, but if it's under $100 or so that's worth it to me.

I'm sorta-handy - I've assembled several PCs over the years, but car electrical systems (especially on a new one) scare me.

I forget off-hand what model my current dash cam is, as it was a gift a few years ago. Not the highest quality (and thankfully I've never been in an accident so aside from "almost crashes" no interesting videos) - I'm looking at this model as an upgrade for the Mav -

Your question: "BTW: When I removed the side panel, I had to lift it off this white trim connector. If anyone has a good way to reassemble using this connector, I'm all ears!"
Answer: When doing custom car audio installs we often use Dum Dum (Strip Caulk) to hold the trim connectors in place in the panel. Then align the panel over the hole and press in. Much easier than trying to pull the panel up and over the fastener while its in the hole.

I've had little success getting those rights out because you have to wiggle it out, if you can get it to strip out like you did and then wiggle it out of the hole to reinstall it.

Excellent write up and great pictures. Thanks for taking the time to document it.
I also agree that you might want to route your wires to cross over the airbag at a point lower down the A-pillar, below the airbag, to avoid constricting the air bag in case it ever needs to deploy. I was able to pull the Apillar trim away at the top; you can leave the trim connected at the dash and still route the wires.

Nice install. I will be doing this as well. I just heard about the fuse block adders from friends, I love those!
