I would like to know how many of us are having problems with the poor-quality windshield and getting chips from tiny objects hitting it. At 8,000 miles, I have 4 chips in the windshield, and none of them were from large objects. I thought I had read that many of you had the same problem. I am planning to try and get Ford to do something about it, but knowing the number of incidents would be helpful.

No issues on this end at almost 2K miles but then again very little Interstate driving in the winter when I used to get the vast majority of chips, sand blasting and cracks.

I am at 5000 miles and have two nice chips in my windshield. However, lets face it, pickup trucks with more vertical windshields are much more prone to chips than cars with more horizontal windshields. So at the end of the day, there is nothing to see here. I have had two Santa Cruz models that both had chips in their windshields by 5000 miles. Its just the cost of doing business.

Two chip/ cracks, first 1,200 miles. One just the other day at 5,800 miles. Owned a year with 8,800 miles.
Have owned other trucks two vans , Nothing to do with height of glass! They are cheap, but I expected it at 28K price!

It's well known that Ford switched to low quality soft glass a long time ago. Good luck getting them to 'do something about it'.

I have zero deductible on my car insurance for glass replacement, so glass replacement is not a big deal for me. I had a small rock chip/spider crack in my Maverick windshield at 12,000 miles about a year ago. When it was replaced, I had an OEM spec (non-Ford) windshield installed, I think it may be less prone to chipping than the Ford glass.

Yep, I agree with most of you. Due to the style and type of our trucks, we're going to get chipped windshields. My worse car was the "Toaster" (2006 Scion XB). Went thru windshields like water down a river.

I'd be curious if there is any quantitative evidence to support the theory of "soft glass"? Perhaps someone has performed a simple Rockwell hardness test on different samples and shown a change? I was under the impression that standard automotive windshield glass hardness is a constant based on the standard chemistry of the soda-lime glass that is used for automotive windshields.

I have less than 2,000 miles on mine and I have a few tiny pits in the glass. One is directly in my line of sight, it’s usually almost invisible but when the sun is at the wrong angle it sparkles like a diamond.

My truck has never been on a limited access highway. I never tailgate other vehicles. My guess is that I got the chips on a day when there was a strong gusty wind. I remember at the end of a small bridge, there was a big gust and I could hear dirt hitting the truck.

Oddly enough, I have zero chips in my Iconic Silver paint.

The glass is garbage. My Lariat windshield is very soft and has lots of pitting.

Could be coincidence, but I had 2 chips in two months before the hood deflector and 0 in 26 months since.

No issues with the windshield at all after almost 2 years. Stop tailgating dump trucks. :p
Dam dump trucks. I live close to a quarry and these guys fly down the road spewing crap everywhere. Only thing worse are those roll off dumpster guys. At least not much comes of those.

I hear you, lots of dump trucks on my commute as well, at least most of them use the required covers on the dumps.

MY22 here, no cracks or pitting, 16,000 miles. I did have something hit the windshield maybe 10 months ago going down the interstate, nothing real close to me but 1 car probably 50 yards ahead, didn't see anything but then something hit the windshield, it was loud. I knew it would be cracked, got home, checked the entire windshield closely. Not a pit, scratch, crack or anything. Good as new. Must have been my lucky day. To be honest, I don't believe any of the "soft glass" theories. I would imagine there are federal standards windshields and safety glass have to meet. I look at it as just aerodynamics, height, etc. Guess you could throw in environmental conditions and driving habits in some cases.
