All the little tips here compiled would likely help reduce odds and increase lifespan. It does seem rather likely many of the symptoms are due to the angle of the windshield. I do love the visibility that large upright stance gives though.

- Bug deflector, might change the trajectory of smaller debris enough to help with pitting
- Increase your follow distance, especially on haulers
- Good Rain-x routines or other coatings might reduce small debris affect. It does also reduce the visual effect of pitting IMO. Wonder if there is a product aimed at this?
- I've had great luck with resin kits in the past. Provided you're diligent and tend to issues quickly. My last windshield was cracked 2 or 3 years into 20 year ownership. Self patch held the whole time in NE.

Otherwise, I will investigate how much extra a $0 deductible is on my insurance.

My 2 month old xl took a hit. Was in center lane. Only car around was a small white one fast lane. Threw a small rock hit my passenger side shield. No damage I could find. Lucky.
If there had been I'd blame ford, call an attorney pronto!!!!!!

My small chip turned into a major crack, which I have not scheduled for repair yet.
Are there any realistic choices on better glass, maybe with more sound deadening?

25,000kms on mine. 2 large chips and dozens of little pits in the glass, almost all of it from rock salt on the roads during the winter months.
Change that - I now have a cracked windshield starting mid-passenger dash, going halfway up the glass and then halfway across the windshield to just past the midway point.
There was no crack when I parked at work yesterday morning, and no evidence of an impact of any kind - but when I got into the truck yesterday afternoon - sure enough the glass was split.

$850+tax CDN to get it replaced at Ford. And my insurance will not cover it as there was / is no evidence that the glass took an impact.

Sigh.
