40k. Four chips and one replacement so far. Glad I opted for the coverage.

I've been driving for 30 years, and in that time have had 2 windshield chips that needed to be filled. I've had my 2023 Maverick- my first Ford- for about 6 months and since Nov 16th have had to have 5 windshield chips filled. What is happening?? What are these windshields made of?? My driving environment hasn't changed. Only my car. Did Ford just use the cheapest materials possible? Is this happening to anyone else?
I asked the Safelite guy when he was replacing my windshield after 18k miles if he saw a lot of Mavericks. The answer was yes, but no more than most other trucks. F150s are even more frequent customers but Jeep Wranglers are the vehicle he sees most often.

It's not the material, it's the design. They all have large surface areas that are angled in a way that means more energy goes into the glass rather than deflecting off.

Check your insurance policy. Many will pay for chip fixes for free and the pros will do a far better job that you can. This makes economic sense because chip fixes are 6-8 times cheaper than replacement.
