What I always thought of the Colorado was it was more like an extended cab than a crew cab because of how narrow the doors were for getting in the back.

Before I bought my Maverick lariat I priced a Colorado top of the line with similar options and it would be nearly 10K$ higher. Too much!
Msrp on 4wd Colorado with tech package would be 50K, MY loaded Lariat awd with 4k tow, BAP EB was 39K

Somehow they end up 10k cheaper used than competitors at a couple of years old though.

I read the car and driver report on both trucks and the Maverick EB gets much better fuel mileage than the colorado and despite the colorado engine having 60 more horse power the maverick is a full second quicker 0 to 60.

People shop based on size, looks, mpg, price.

Unless someone "needs" a bigger truck, Maverick wins on the rest. :)

There was theoretically a price gap to drive a wedge in between high trim mavs and low trim rangers but mavs holding price and rangers getting discounts make them overlap by a thousand.

The Colorado is a midsize and is quite a bit larger than the Maverick. In spite of then, it has less internal space and is less functional. Unless they made the new Colorado smaller to fit in the garage, lower to actually be usable by real people without climbing up, added the smartbed functionality of the Mav and added a hybrid drivetrain without a Mercedes pricetag, nope.

I just retired out of the wentzville plant that builds the Colorado/Canyon and as far as I’m concerned the maverick is the better “compact” truck. The Colorado is basically the competition to the ranger, with a 2.7 turbo 4 getting 17 mpg. I chose the maverick because of the better mpg, cost and entry/exit height. The Colorado with the options I got on my maverick would have been a minimum of $7000 more, and that’d be with my employees discount.

If it was 2018 again, I'd be taking a close "could I live with it" look at the duramax option, but I was counting pennies back then.
