i am leaving my Maverick Hybrid for five months. Does anyone know if starting it remotely and leaving it on for fifteen minutes will charge the 12v battery under the rear seat or will starting it remotely drain the 12v battery? thanks

Good question. Any other vehicle, I'd say, yeah, it should, but with the Maverick, not so sure. I'm thinking you'd be lucky to even get to start remotely if it goes into deep sleep mode. I think a better plan would be to get a battery maintainer, either one that plugs into a regular household outlet or one that's solar powered if you're not near an AC outlet. Amazon has a good selection. For plug-in, I like the Black & Decker. Very affordable and good reviews.

With the ac on the engine will run a little more. You can only remote start it once then you have to use the key then remote again. I tried the same thing when I went away for a week.

I managed to remote start mine through the app several times when I was gone for over a month. But even then I still got the deep sleep message before I came home.

Get a battery tender...problem solved. Just wire it so the BMS can detect the current.

The Answer is YES it will charge the 12v battery under the rear seat.

Check my full #114 post here: "Deep Sleep" Analysis

Any time the Hybrid Maverick is Readied or Started the High voltage Battery will charge the 12 Battery (if necessary) via the DC-to-DC converter.

From my thread answer:

Deep Sleep:

Healthy: 66% 316 CCA Amps available
Charge: 29% 12.09 Volts
GOOD-RECHARGE

I then turned ON the Hybrid and it showed "ready to drive" but I just let it sit. In this mode the 12V battery should charge from the HV battery via the DC-to-DC converter. If necessary the ICE engine will run to charge the HV battery if needed. In this case it did not run.

After 30 minutes of ON time I again tested and got these results:

Healthy: 100% 412 CCA Amps available
Charge: 75% 12.55 Volts
GOOD BATTERY

As seen having the Hybrid Maverick just turned ON for 30 minutes charged the 12 Battery from 29% to 75% full.

Use a two amp trickle charger to keep it fully charged while away.

THANKS for everyone's input!

Huunvubu- your input was really enlightening. I like the way you think! I am going to start remotely every few weeks. I am debating on leaving AC on so the engine is more likely to go on, thoughts?

My situation is that I am leaving my Maverick under someone's carport near the edge of their property with no access to electric. They are doing me a favor and have asked for the keys in case they have to move the Maverick. Pre-maverick, I had a quick disconnect on my battery terminal. I took off the quick disconnect from my previous car and plan on someday putting on the Maverick. I dont want to trouble the elder guy with worrying about using the disconnect for his convenience in case it has to be moved.

I called Ford customer service early in the week, was transferred 3-4 times trying to find an answer if starting remotely charges battery. 53 minutes later, I was told my question was a dealership tech question. Great to go to this forum here and hear everyone's input.

I will let ya know in October what happens!

Thanks!

There's no alternator so the ICE doesn't need to run to charge the 12V battery.
