Why the ecoboost?

This thread is something else. Both options have thier pros and cons. It is possible to both think you made the right choice for you and that someone else made the right choice for them.

But if I see conjecture masquerading as fact I'll likely mention something. Maybe that's a problem I have? On the flip side it looks like bias confirmation seeking behavior is real.

And the insults say more about the people slinging them than anyone else.

I think you are missing some of the sarcasm and fun in this thread. Trucks and truck people always have and always will poke fun at each other.
You are correct both them have very specific needs they meet. For some the hybrid fits the bill much better than the ecoboost.
For people like me the ecoboost fits the bill for what I need and I have a lot of fun with these little motors and know them better than most having built many of them and had great luck with them. But I do more truck things with them. Awd, more power for towing and the fun aspect fits me better. I do mostly highway driving for work and very little city.
I just like to poke fun at people who think the only correct choice was the one they made.

I think for a lot of people it's because they gave it a proper name - "Ecoboost".
If they called it a "tiny 2.0 4 cylinder stressed by a turbocharger" no one would buy it.

Rather than a wimpy 2.5 4 banger that needs a batteries boost to keep from getting run over!

I will bet you a complete maverick that the ecoboost 2.0 will be a much better longer lasting power train than the hybrid.
As I stated before having several that have gone over 350k miles of not so nice condition’s I went that way because for me and my situation the 2.0 is definitely not stressed at factory power levels. In fact I have one about to roll 200k with all but 300 mile being tuned for e30 and that added 120lbs trq and nice jump in power.
I get a kick out of all this turbo chargers and not good for long term. Tell that to any trucker hauling anything at a truck stop.

My other vehicle is a hemi ram,so gas mileage was not an issue. Went with the ecoboost for twice the tow rating of the hybrid.another reason is the AWD,and lastly even though the 2.5 hybrid was introduced in 2009,it's current configuration was new for the maverick and I tend to shy away from first year technology.

I went ecoboost because of AWD and i live in northern canada so heat from a constantly running engine is super necessary. I dont know of anyone that has a hybrid where i live that doesnt park it 6 months out of a year

Why ecoboost? Properly configured, it's better than a hybrid in every single difference they have except fuel economy.

AWD if equipped (and it should be). Tows 4k if equipped. It's MUCH more fun to drive fast. Much more capable offroad or in wintry conditions (assuming same/similar tires used comparing hybrid and ecoboost AWD).

Hybrid can save a lot of money in high mileage scenarios, especially high mileage urban. I do about 25k miles a year but it's 85% highway, more than 2/3rds is company travel, and my company pays for the gas.

Even if I drove 15k a year and paid all the gas, I wouldn't want a hybrid Maverick. I want a more capable vehicle.

I have had 2 Ford Escspes with the Eco Boost Engines and found them very reliable and fuel consumption was good. That’s why I went with the Maverick EB. Glad I did it’s been a great vehicle so far.

This is easy, 4k towing, FX4, AWD, and 250 hp, I get 22/23 mpg local and have gotten as much as 38 highway. What do you get with a hybrid just good gas mileage local driving?
I think there building around 50/50, my truck is almost 2 years old, and still look forward to getting in it everyday. I would bet that gas prices are going to come down.

Sorry to go down the tangent, again, but if you are able to get above EPA estimates in the ecoboost on the highway, you'd do the same in the hybrid and possibly to a significant degree. Unless you are driving well above legal speeds, the hybrid is more efficient on the highway too, and could be by a pretty wide margin. Many of us on this board and on fuelly regularly get 45mpg (or more) on the highway in the hybrid.

There are benefits to both powertrains, the hybrid's primary one is that it is significantly more fuel efficient except in outlier situations (driving well above speed limit, possibly towing).

In my case, coming from a 2015 F-150 3.5 EcoBoost, PS. It's outside for sale right now. The F-150 shows 21.2 miles per gallon currently in the driveway. Certainly not bad with it's towing package two-wheel drive. But I'm pretty sure the all-wheel drive Maverick is going to do a little better. Limited hauling that I will do these days. Also wanted four-wheel drive and at least the 4K towing. Possibly a small camper, kayaks and bicycles. I used to pull my 2013 Boss Mustang from time to time.
