The fact that Hybrid was/is much harder to get factored into it. I also wanted AWD, and the upgraded towing package was not bad either.

Hybrid guy here, but I'd easily say:
AWD
4k tow
faster stock and easily modded
hwy cruising mpg at high speeds is pretty good

(for our use case, only thing I'd really like is AWD -would be useful for occasional dirt roads and snow)

4K tow was the only reason.

Ford said that I had a 50/50 chance of getting my truck in 2023 if I stayed with the hybrid. I couldn't wait that long with looming repairs on my then current vehicle.

Switched to the Eco and they scheduled it at the next opportunity.

My dealer had one on the lot (a preorder that the buyer backed out on). I was coming to order a hybrid, but this one was EB with AWD and 4K towing. I get around 26 MPG mixed use and I'm pleased with everything. I've never driven the hybrid so I can't say but I am very pleased with the EB. 5500 miles later I'm glad I got it.

This topic comes up every so often. However, I'll respond again because my reasons have just slightly changed after 18 months of participation on these forums and gaining more insight.

EB selection:
  1. Forced Induction to Maintain HP at elevation. High elevation (6k to 9k ft) towing a 1600lb popup (for camping) brought my 156hp Frontier to it's knees. While the hybrid could do it as it's below the 2klb max, the powertrain would work vert hard... On very long climbs, you wouldn't have the benefit of the electric motor, so no 191hp, but rather just the 162hp of the atkinson motor. But, really, you wouldn't have 162hp, becuase without the benefit of forced induction, you'd loose a good amount of hp at high elevation due to thinner air. I just didn't want to repeat the unpleasant experience of pulling the camper with the similarly powered Frontier. We get out of the Sonoran Desert and seek higher ground in the worst of the summer.
  2. 4K tow. Two reasons here... as I was getting EB,
    1. I felt the addition of the 4K Tow package was cheap insurance to keep the powertrain cooler in the extremely hot summer conditions of the Sonoran Desert. However, It does necessitate AWD, which means watching tire wear at all four corners more carefully.
    2. I don't have to sweat pulling a slightly heavier utility trailer as well.
  3. Concern over Hybrid Battery issues. This is new and is a result of challenges some hybrid owners have documented on this site. We just can't deal with the battery issues as they would be difficult to manage with our lifestyle.
    1. I have a home in Green Valley Arizona USA. The local dealership has a very bad reputation for service work, so that would leave me driving down or being towed to southern Nogales or up to northern Tucson for all maintenance/repairs. That's fine, If I don't have to do it all of the time. In Green Valley our alternative transportation will be our bicycles, as both the CRV and Frontier will go when the Maverick arrives.
    2. I spend a fair amount of time at my home in remote and mountainous Álamos Sonora MEX, at least 7 months or so, broken up throughout the year. The nearest city, Navojoa, about 45 minutes away. The Ford dealership there is tiny, (aprox 3 or 4 vehicles in the lot) so I don't know how capable they are with difficult to solve problems... The EB tech, and this engine for that matter, have been around Mexico for a while. When we are in Álamos, we only have one vehicle; we can walk most places quite easily.
  4. Driving style means either is an economical choice. I generally exceed manufacturer/epa mileage estimates. I had 3 bad speeding tickets at 16 years old.... Cured me four decades ago... Very certain I should routinely see 30-32mpg with the Maverick EB. I suspect, with the fair amount of long distance highway driving we do, we'd see 36-40mpg with the Maverick Hybrid. 4 to 10 mgp delta over a scant 10k-12k miles a year, is just not convincing enough when considering the potential service, performance, and utility sacrifices.

OP here, I wanted the hybrid but also learned it would be a longer wait and I heard some of the batteries in the hybrid had caused issues.

availability. i had ordered a '24 hybrid, but my dealer never updated or confirmed my order and i didn't want to wait a year for my truck. went to another dealership that had a '23 ecoboost with 25 miles on it so i snatched that one up instead
