I've experienced this before, its called hate me cuz you ain't me. Very contagious among those who think bigger is always better.

Many Americans have been brainwashed by corporations to give them all their money to prove to others they have money , that they don't have any longerCars are deeply deeply tied to identity and are one of the biggest and most visible displays of status. America is a car culture and that is deeply tied to identity, status, competition and relationship attractiveness.
Some people see it as an object they have while other see it as part of THEM. It depends on the status folks want to perceive.
Drive a cheap car amongst the snob elite?
Drive a clean truck amongst "workin' men"?
Drive a low to medium MPG amongst environmentalists?
Drive a ICE amongst Tesla weirdos?
Drive a two door amongst parent groups?
Drive a modern car amongst classic car folks?
Drive a scooter amongst motorcyclists?
Drive a car amongst anti-car folks?
Ride a bicycle around car drivers?
If you stand out, you're gonna not only get shit but a lot of insecurities are gonna come out. America is full of insecure folks who cannot handle someone not sharing their values or status. You being happy to own something they dislike, questions their entire identity. And they can't have that.
My boss and other leaders at work to this day give me shit about not driving a "nice car". They all know how much I make and that i "can afford something nice". They are so hyper focused on the status symbol they don't factor in that I not only need a truck for my hobbies but drive less than 75 miles a month. A $50k+ big truck is a giant waste for me, but to them it is me not playing in their status game.
SadI live in SE Michigan and I will be deleting the hybrid badge. I have heard of some hate towards hybrid vehicles. Not on the same scale of hate as Tesla invokes in some people but still don't want the drama.
Huh? Not my experience.I live in Michigan...tons of car cruises, shows...when I go to them...NOT showing my maverick or anything, just driving it there and parking...Why oh why do all the gear heads HATE the maverick....? They all have the small peter syndrome and drive giant beefed up trucks...the haters are just ALL OVER against the maverick. I love the bugger, everything about it...but god almighty, the assholes out there that bad mouth it...they can't even contain their hatred in your presence. ok...rant over.
I just witnessed that at a quick-lube place yesterday while taking in another vehicle. Mach-E just used their driveway to turn around, but for the brief moment it wasn't clear, they all lost their minds. Not even a real mustang, etc. Would have thought they'd happily take the money for tire rotations and air filters or whatever. You think they hate the Maverick.....roll in sporting a Mustang Mach-E and just watch the seething hate broil from within and the hateful gazes pass your way.
I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the amount of times I've heard someone tell me "Hey man, that looks cool but its not a real Mustang". I'm not even showing it off I'm just walking into the gas station for a pack of smokes and a six pack after a long week at work but it never fails....I just witnessed that at a quick-lube place yesterday while taking in another vehicle. Yeah, gotta laugh at that because I too cannot count how many times I've been told that my Maverick is nice, but very light duty. I always respond the same, "Look at me, I am light duty so why shouldn't my truck be the same". That shuts them up.I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the amount of times I've heard someone tell me "Hey man, that looks cool but its not a real Mustang". The first 20 or so times I just let it go and went about my business. After that I decided to take a different approach and it's game on my friend.
Now when someone tells me "Yeah but its not a real Mustang" I'm like.......

I'm an engineer and have loved cars since I was tiny and could identify the exact year of any car on the road (early 60s). I've never been a Toyota-phile (the couple of Japanese cars I have owned were all Mazdas, and my wife's were Hondas.) But the Maverick hybrid transmission (and by extension the Prius one) is just so dang clever and simple. It has literally like 12 moving parts -- including the bearings. The Maverick is in the future and they are living in the past. I understand, I'm a gearhead too but I'm also a tech head and the hybrid powertrain is so cool.
I know!! Thats the point of hybrids. The Hybrid Transmission is geometry and physics at its best!! And when I sold my Prius with 84,000 miles on it, the brakes only showed 25% wear!! My worst mpg in the prius was 43. My best was on the freeway, maintaining 65 mph, I would consistently get 50 mpg. One thing about the Maverick, I definitely can manuver faster when changing lanes on the freeway.I'm an engineer and have loved cars since I was tiny and could identify the exact year of any car on the road (early 60s). Yes, the hybrid with the eCVT is pretty clever and I would call it a good combination of tech and high performance.I know!! Thats the point of hybrids.
