Not truck related, but remember record players with needles. Those stupid things would hang up in a groove and repeat itself over and over until someone bumped it forward. While my mother was pregnant with me she actually stuck one of those phonograph needles thru her finger. Fortunately it did not affect me, affect me, affect me, affect me LOL.

After living 76 years and having bought around 100 new vehicles for family and business, I pose the question, “Why would you buy a Maverick?” Before I answer it, let me share an insight my old dad gave me when I was a kid. It has 3 things to it and he aced Economics although he never finished High School.
  • Only buy what you can afford.
  • Only buy what you need.
  • Only buy what you want when you can afford it and if you think you need it.
Now to the answer to my question. A lot of people on the forum go to long explanations why a Corolla with a trailer will do what a Maverick will do, why some other vehicle is better, etc. The answer is very simple. If you only need a car, buy a car. If you need a 1 ton pickup and can afford it, buy a 1 ton pickup. If you want a $150K sports car and can afford it, buy it. But there is no need to go to great lengths to compare any of them to a Maverick. It is a small truck that is very affordable and designed to do what a small truck is designed to do – plain and simple.

If I own a business and move heavy equipment, etc. I probably need that 1 ton truck, not a Maverick. If I only go to the store and get groceries once a week, drive 2K per year and that is it, I can probably do with a 5 year old small car. If I want something that is functional in so many ways, and provided I can find one, I will buy a Maverick. If not, I will buy what I can afford, need and find and that is the end of it – plain and simple.
I could afford twice the truck as my XLT Maverick but, in general, my hauling needs are modest and I like zipping around in a smaller truck. I'm frugal and like the mpg's and the utility. The Maverick is comfortable and simple which is good. Hopefully I don't have to dig into the controls and hybrid parts which would be the opposite of simple.

You are right on the money. Why spend what you do not need to spend? My wife has a Hybrid and I have an EB, and we both enjoy them for the exact reasons you have outlined. In reality, this little truck will do most of what half the people who drive trucks need to do and the other half need the big ones. Keep enjoying your Mav.

I bought it and I'm living the dream.
With my 2016 Expedition, it was the first time I'd ever ordered a vehicle. I finally decided that if I'm going to make 48 or 60 payments on a vehicle, it should be just the way I wanted it. So, if you see a dark green Expedition XLT with beige leather interior, and the $6500 package that included the towing equipment, it's probably me. It's all paid off and I'm still loving it at 90,000 miles.
So, I'm thinking, at the age of 66, I should just keep it another ten years, but get something else to drive daily. If I have a band gig or need to go camping, I'll still have the Expedition, but a Hybrid maverick XLT for under $25,000? In the color I like? With the $100 (yes I said $100) optional towing hitch and 4-pin connector? Hell yes.
I'm at 14,000 miles on the Maverick and I really think I like it more every day. Took it out West last summer and the wife and I both loved it (I posted about our 5500 mile trip).
It took me a little bit of adjustment to get used to the fact that I am no longer looking for my next car. My wife loves her Prius V, love my two Ford trucks, and life is good.
Man, gotta love it. The only question I would have on the Maverick is why did you spend so much on options LOL?

Yes, it's kind of funny that according to most accounts, the Maverick was designed for millennials, or Z gen, or whatever....
The only way it doesn't appeal to someone our age is: it doesn't play CDs!!! ;-)
Right about that. Would you believe, my niece found and bought for me a Record Player that still works. Not that I can use it because I have not seen 45's or 79's in years.

You are probably right. God forbid I mention 4 tract tape players, 8 tract tape players, cassette players, rotary phones, phones with no dial mechanism where you had to get operator to place call. How about wringer washing machines, wood burning stoves, attic fans for cooling, linoleum rugs for floors and last but not least - outhouses. History of being poor lesson completed. Anyone ready for the exam on it next week? LOL.

I still have the under dash unit from my first car, many tapes too. Wonder if anything still works?
Hook that thing up and you could blow people's minds. Let the forum know that is the latest mod, and tons of people will want to order one and install it. Some might even wonder if Forscan will give them the codes to make it part of the indash system.

I buy a new car every 2 years and usually modify them to my taste. I own multiple vehicles and will amass 25 or more cars by the time I am 60. I enjoy walking into my shop and picking a very different vehicle to drive on any given day. I look at the Maverick as a solid platform to autocross with and eventually thats what it's life will be.

Exactly. I my case, retired but still need a pickup for all kinds of things. Getting about 42 mpg in my Hybrid, don't need 4 wheel drive. It is a great all around vehicle and I am on par with being parsimonious...
