After living 76 years and having bought around 100 new vehicles for family and business, I pose the question, “Why would you buy a Maverick?” Before I answer it, let me share an insight my old dad gave me when I was a kid. It has 3 things to it and he aced Economics although he never finished High School.
  • Only buy what you can afford.
  • Only buy what you need.
  • Only buy what you want when you can afford it and if you think you need it.
Now to the answer to my question. A lot of people on the forum go to long explanations why a Corolla with a trailer will do what a Maverick will do, why some other vehicle is better, etc. The answer is very simple. If you only need a car, buy a car. If you need a 1 ton pickup and can afford it, buy a 1 ton pickup. If you want a $150K sports car and can afford it, buy it. But there is no need to go to great lengths to compare any of them to a Maverick. It is a small truck that is very affordable and designed to do what a small truck is designed to do – plain and simple.

If I own a business and move heavy equipment, etc. I probably need that 1 ton truck, not a Maverick. If I only go to the store and get groceries once a week, drive 2K per year and that is it, I can probably do with a 5 year old small car. If I want something that is functional in so many ways, and provided I can find one, I will buy a Maverick. If not, I will buy what I can afford, need and find and that is the end of it – plain and simple.
Great insight! Love the expert advice from your dad.

Now you are being rational and logical. No place for such things on blogs and forums :)

Basically, the maverick can't be beaten, by any new vehicle selling for less than 30k in terms of offering a compelling, well rounded vehicle. We would know, we looked at virtually everything, civics, souls, cx-5s, Mazda 3, corollas, optimas, Sante cruzs, escapes, rav 4s. There is nothing that can touch the maverick right now in the entry level space. Frankly, nothing even comes close.
I so agree. Under $30k I drive a vehicle that never makes me wish I had chosen differently.

Bought it because I could get this kind of mpg that couldn’t do it before with other vehicles .

I bought it and I'm living the dream.
With my 2016 Expedition, it was the first time I'd ever ordered a vehicle. I finally decided that if I'm going to make 48 or 60 payments on a vehicle, it should be just the way I wanted it. So, if you see a dark green Expedition XLT with beige leather interior, and the $6500 package that included the towing equipment, it's probably me. It's all paid off and I'm still loving it at 90,000 miles.
So, I'm thinking, at the age of 66, I should just keep it another ten years, but get something else to drive daily. If I have a band gig or need to go camping, I'll still have the Expedition, but a Hybrid maverick XLT for under $25,000? In the color I like? With the $100 (yes I said $100) optional towing hitch and 4-pin connector? Hell yes.
I'm at 14,000 miles on the Maverick and I really think I like it more every day. Took it out West last summer and the wife and I both loved it (I posted about our 5500 mile trip).
It took me a little bit of adjustment to get used to the fact that I am no longer looking for my next car. My wife loves her Prius V, love my two Ford trucks, and life is good.

Because it's practical and fun. Can be turned into a Ken Block hoonmobile or kept stock. Use it for camping or hunting. Can make it your own through an ever expanding aftermarket. The return of the regular size pickup has begun. Just too bad a separate club can't be developed for people to be sore about having to wait for theirs. The wait is worth it. Excited for the return of the Subaru Baja and Brat, and 90s size Tacoma re-release. We're living in a great time right now. Cheers.

Although coincidental, isn’t it amazing how the Maverick just fits us Advanced Middle Age folks perfectly. Glad your Maverick is doing you well just like mine.

Yes, it's kind of funny that according to most accounts, the Maverick was designed for millennials, or Z gen, or whatever....
The only way it doesn't appeal to someone our age is: it doesn't play CDs!!! ;-)

The XLT Lux package Hybrid is a wonderful replacement for the 10 year old PriusV I was driving, though it only had 108,500 miles on it, zero towing rating, happy with 2k, my buddy got the Toyota and hopefully they will enjoy it for a Tootsie roll time. (Lasts a long Time) for you youngsters out there.

Wow - I had totally forgotten about that "clunk" between tracks... But yeah, it was a "thing" back in the day. I can remember pulling the aftermarket 8-track out of my '71 Maverick to replace it with a cassette tape deck. I thought I was totally cool!
