numerous threads. Most people recommend between 500 and 1000 miles to purge the factory gunk after it's all washed down into the pan.

And after that, if you are using quality synthetic oil, you really only need to change it every 10k miles; no matter what those old guys who had pre CAD/CAM cars before 2000 say. Things are built different now, not like 1960's and 70's cars that MIGHT get 100k miles before a major engine torn-apart repair. And the syn oil and filters are vastly superior, too. Trust the manual, it's already at overkill replacement intervals, because they don't want to do warranty work.

Your truck has a system that tells you when to change it. Many people are skeptical, but not a single person has ever proven that it is inadequate.

Enjoy your truck.

Your new car or truck has break in oil inside. For example, a Volkswagen specialist would say you should do your first oil change between 250 to 500 miles to get rid of any metal shavings etc.

Really just depends how long you plan to keep it, or if you care about who has it after you. Anything above & beyond the OLM is for hedging your bets for life after 200K.

Probably more important is using a quality synthetic oil that will hold viscosity for >5k miles.

So if break-in oil - why would you not use it to the stated break in period at least?

Change it out at 1000 miles, then just follow the oil life monitor after that.

When I did the first oil change at 1000 miles, the oil didn't look great. Decent amount of glitter and kind of had like an olive green hue to it.

So, you started a thread to ask all the “Ford specialists” if breaking in a Maverick is somehow different than what you’ve heard about breaking in Volkswagens? 😀

Then there’s the Turbo and on the older ones auto stop/start.
Bad combination.
My 2024 has the stop/start affliction.
I try and religiously turn it off on preflight, I remember 99% of the time to disable it.
For the sake of my Turbo.

I’ll continue to do 5K service intervals with
Motorcraft Full Synthetic.

I’m an old fart.
This is the old way, you will not see this again.

Well all...I have 46 ASE certifications, been in the industry 50+ years. Still working...and still amazed how many folks get worked up over the topic of oil changes. 15 years of my career I've spent teaching A/D repair at Manufacturer level. My take on oil changes are ...did anyone teach you step by step sex? Most will say no. So trial and error and doing what feels right. Same with oil changes. There is no one right answer for everyone. I know I keep my vehicles 200k-225k miles. So I invest in costly oil. For someone the flips vehicles, cheap oil changes on infrequent intervals works too. Oil has evolved as have engines. I ran my oem oil for 1500 miles, but swapped the filter to a premium synthetic filter at 1000. At 1500 miles it received royal purple and fresh filter. Now it will have that repeated every 7k for its life with me. I don't and won't debate oil or service. Do what feels right to you. Reap the results of your decision.
