I was a little late on the first oil change, I did it at about 3k. I like to replace the factory oil and residue at about 1000-1500 miles. With full synthetic oil, I change it every 10k miles whether it needs it or not. And also the filter, obviously. That's close to the recommended schedule, and it's less than twice a year with the mileage I drive. Also, it's easy to remember 10k intervals, vs. waiting for an indicator light or spending a bunch of money to have oil samples tested for some reason. It only cost $35 for oil and a filter.
There are some people even older than me that still think all oil comes from decayed plants and dinosaurs, and that it "goes bad" after just a few thousand miles. In 2025, it does not. It DID in 1970, their frame of reference, and the tolerances on parts were worse so there was a lot of wear and metal dust and shavings getting circulated around, too. Modern CAD-CAM manufacturing creates tolerances the best machinists at NASA in 1970 could only dream of, and on even the cheapest cars, too. Like the Mav.
