When you performed your 1st oil change at 1600 miles, did you find much for break-in particles? I found more aluminum particles in my 2022 EB but more gold (copper) particles in my 2024 Hybrid. Should I be concerned or do I need to pan this gold to cover a new bottom end? I am sure the next oil change will tell the story. Not really concerned while it is still under warranty.
@ShadowBlack XL440 I use one of those oil containers under the truck where you really don't get to look at the drained oil. I've taken a few quick samples of the stream from the pan during later oil changes just to see and the oil from my hybrid always looks fine to me.

I'd continue to argue for an early first oil change though. The bulk of the break-in particles suspended in the oil will be removed early that way.

I have no idea if the particle density in your drained oil picture is normal or not, but you can certainly expect a bunch of suspended particles on the first change so I personally wouldn't worry about it. As you said: have a look again with the second oil change, and remember these (Mazda designed L-series) 2.5 4-cyl. engines have proven highly reliable.

Only thing I have to offer is synthetic blend is a waste of money. From what I've read they charge basically a split the difference between regular and full synthetic but it's probably like 80% regular oil.
As a matter of law, you can take a 55 gallon drum of conventional oil and add a drop of synthetic and it is legally a synthetic blend. If you want a blend buy a few quarts of conventional and a few quarts of full synthetic and let 'er rip.

(Don't get me started on why most "synthetic" oils today are NOT truly synthetic.)

I think Ford recommends 7-10k miles. I ended up doing mine at just over 6k miles, mainly because I was getting close to 6 months. I was at about 20% oil life according to the oil life monitor. IMO every 5-7k miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first.
I must have run more electric miles than you....because at 9000 miles, I was at 46% Oil life left. I did the first change at 9200 just to get the first done...since I was there for the camera recall anyway.. Now...I'm at 16,600 miles and it shows 52% Oil Life.
