Hey guys, I am coming up on 4000 miles (3700 ish per ford app) when should I be doing my first oil change. The sticker in the window says first service 5000. But I am seeing people doing it way sooner than where I'm at. Fordpass puts oil life at 78% should I hold out and change it at 0% or do I risk undue wear from break in on the engine?

My friend, this is a loaded question. I suggest you type in the search bar, "When should I change my oil?". There is over 3 years of answers and decades of experiences including and not limited to a deep dive into scientific oil analysis. Short answer to your question...............when YOU think it's the best time. Good luck!!

I agree with Curtis b as there are numerous opinions. Some say right after break in to get the metals out, others say leave break in oil in as it's designed to do that and the filter takes out the metals and go to 5000 miles, others do it at 500 then 1000 then 3500 then start the 5k or six months, others use the oil life indicator. I have the Ecoboost and will do my first change around 3500-4000 miles or six months from day I bought it, whichever comes first. You have the hybrid so probably can go longer. I'm a 5k 6 month guy. But In the last thirty years I have never gotten to 5k before the six months were up, so I guess I'm a 6 month guy 😂

I'm in the hybrid but I'm right in that sweetspot. I'm nit going ti change my own oil I'll let the dealer do that.

As some have pointed out I doubt there's ever been anyone who's engine died because of fresh oil. And I won't change my own either. I got a ten year extended warranty so I'll let the dealer do all the maintenance So in case something goes sideways they can't say it's because of me. And then it'll be covered

On the EB do 5k or 1 year. On the Hybrid do 12k and 1 year. Make sure to use the specified oil to stop intake valve carbon buildup.

I don't know about hybrids, but, myself? I'd never let my oil go for as long as the oil life monitor says to go on a 100% gas vehicle. I go 4-5k before an oil change. But like others have said, do a search and you'll find many answers by those that have a lot more knowledge than me on the subject. Or go to Bob is the Oil Guy web site.

Regular and light duty with no towing. I was comfortable to take it to 7500 miles, 48% oil life on the first change. The manual says 1 year or 10k max and the monitor will adjust for that. My plan is 7500 until 60k then every 10-12k after that. 24k total miles now. Check the condition and level regularly, I bet it's still fine.

I took my Oil Life Monitor to 0%, (factory oil) and had the oil analyzed. Analysis indicated oil was still fine. Fine enough to continue driving much farther. Not recommending others do it. However, I'm going to continue using the OLM to 0%.

I'm doing my first one Thursday. Should be around 1300-1400 miles by then. I'm taking a trip next weekend, and I'd prefer to have that stuff out of my car. I'll commence to the 5K intervals after that.

With the engine oil also lubricating the turbo, I think that a 5K interval makes sense.

My OLM showed 25% remaining life after about 10 months and about 1300 miles after my first oil change done at OLM 5% reading at 965 miles on my 2022.

Is there anything in the owners manual about this?

I have a hybrid and since I don't do a lot of miles and it is mostly city driving, I decided to do it at 6 months and only 3000Kms. I noticed a couple of times that the oil filler cap had a little brown foam suggesting moisture build-up. The one long trip (Toronto to Rochester return) did not show any moisture so highway driving burned it off.
Sadly, the Ford technician spilled oil all over the valve cover and it has to go back to get this cleaned off (I didn't notice when it was done as I had to leave the dealership quickly that day). The spilled oil has likely gone down the coil pack tubes.

I did mine at 3000, 6000, and 10,000. Then I will go to every 5000, but I have an EB. You have a hybrid. Remember that toy you had as a kid with the metal filings and a magnet and you moved them around to give the face a mustache, eyebrows, etc? Those kind of filings are inside your engine and hopefully the filter is taking those out. The oil is good, but what about all that metal floating around. I have antique cars with no filter so we change oil at every 5000 miles. Think about it. Your call.

Read the owners manual. It recommends 7,500 - 10,000 miles or so on the hybrid. Technically sooner if you do lots of idling/and a fair amount of towing. So if you do lot of idling/and more than a few times towing a year it says 5k-7.5k miles. Also says don't exceed 1 year on changing the oil so even if you're at 5-6k miles only with average driving go ahead and get it changed.
