I'm sure it kicks in no matter what drive mode you are in. Slippery just smothes out the power and braking.
Slippery does far more than that.
Per my individual wheel power indicator behind my steering wheel in my 2024 Eco
Slippery sends equal amounts of torque to all four wheels,
Until something slips. Mine climbs the best in slippery.

I can hang the back out in a 4 wheel drift anytime up here in the snow covered roads of Michigan 😉👍🏼
You can do that with the hybrids as well. It actually makes me respect the AWD system and the engineers too. Giving the system the ability to overdrive the rear axle is a small gift to enthusiasts and counter to the thinking that says "its safer to make a vehicle under-steer vs over-steer."

The rear wheels also reengage every time you come to a stop, and
stays engaged until you reach approximately 15 to 20 MPH.
Do the rear wheels reengage when the speed drops below 15 to 20 MPH, I have a 2025 2.0 AWD and in sport mode I feel a drag in the drive train compared to when I’m in normal mode.

Power is split in normal mode from 0-15 mph.

Standard AWD can’t send torque to individual wheels.

What you are experiencing is the change in shift points from being in sport mode. It will downshift sooner when in sport mode.

Mine goes pretty good in Slippery mode but last night the roads sucked and taking off pretty easy from a stop sign up a hill it struggled a little bit.

Been driving in the snow and notice front wheels spin occasionally. Does the rear wheel drive on a hybrid kick in when needed in "normal" mode or only in "slippery" mode?
We just got over a foot of snow and being the big 74-year-old kid I am I had to go play in the snow, I couldn't see the wheels but the TRUCK was amazing in deep snow, it reminded me of my 90s Ranger way back when. I don't remember my 22 Maverick eco awd fx4 being as good as this 25-lariat hybrid in the snow. there are lots of videos on how the system works, if I remember right you always start out with all 4 wheels working than transfers to just front, unless a wheel starts slipping.

We have a super wide driveway at the back corner of our building at work for Semi's to turn around. 1st time it snowed, I played a bit with mine and did the same thing. Nice controllable 4 wheel drift onto the road.

My '22 ecoboost AWD will send power to the rear wheels at any speed in normal mode whenever I'm accelerating fast, say pressing the throtle halfway in or more, according to the "intelligent AWD" screen in my instrument cluster. In fact, when flooring the gas it will show a little bit more power to the rears than the front, like it is doing a rear-biased 60:40 split.

Yes this^^^^ very informative video.

No, I believe it’s the RDU disengaging. The clunk or whatever it is happens when you go below 15.

Where does the “wheel power indicator” behind the steering wheel appear? Before I take my eyes off the road - which quadrant of the dash does it appear? Thanks!

That may explain the subtle but noticeable surge in acceleration as I slow down in Lobo sport mode approaching a stop - the “30/70” RWD/FWD switches to 100% FWD…

Just a simple question??
In your post and in your personal information, there is no mention of 4WD...
