Don’t wait until too long. Used car prices are already moderating.
Maverick Hybrid MY23 Order Banks don't open until 8/15 so all those who are doing pre-orders are not really ordering anything. I for one want to see the order guide before I order and those won't be available until a week before the order banks open.

As for your statement of "Used car prices are already moderating" that is really not happening yet. At least for the Maverick Hybrid.

My Maverick XLT Hybrid actually increased in value over the last three weeks even though I drove it 2800 miles on a vacation.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Carvana offer is now higher even after our 12 day 2800 mile vacation from Coppell (Dallas Suburb) to Saint Louis then to Iowa (Cedar Rapids & Dubuque) then onto Chicago then to Memphis and finally back to Coppell.

New Carvana offer is $35,646 on 6/17/2022.

Previous offer(s) were $34,889 on 5/29, $32,974 on 5/6 and $31,196 on 4/13. Over the previous two months my used Maverick has increased in value by $4,450. Not bad for what usually is a depreciating asset when first driving off the lot.

XLT Hybrid + Co-Pilot360, Cabin 120V/400W outlet, Sliding Rear Window, Hard Drop-In Bedliner

MSRP price was $24,620 but I paid 1.8% under at $24,174. Total Out-the-Door price was $26,068 that included $1,551 in sales tax, $150 doc fee and $193 in other state fees.

So Carvana's current offer is $9,578 over my Out-the-Door price or $11,026 over MSRP. o_O

Just did mine at 1300 miles. It had a surprising amount of metal flakes in it. Similar to the oil that came out of my supra engine that spun a rod bearing actually. The filter is absolutely insanely tight. Had to put a hose clamp on it and hammer the clamp. Even after a full rotation it was still way more than hand tight. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself unless you have a strap wrench.

Changed the oil and filter at 2115 miles. The oil that came out was not dark and had no fuel smell. No sparkles either. Used Mobil 1 0W-20 EP and Motorcraft FL-910s

The oil filter was tight but not insanely so. I had a cap that fit and it was not a difficult chore for a 67 y.o. weakling.

10,600 miles and had my first oil changed and tires rotated today on my hybrid. Mechanic said nothing looked out of the norm. Still said I had 8 percent oil life. I would guess, after the electric miles, it actually on 7,000-7500 miles of ice driving. Why waste money. To each his/her own.

Have 3500 on mine now and about to do a 2200 mile road trip next week. Been debating on trying to get it done beforehand but think I’m going to wait until after this trip.

For those struggling with removing the OEM factory oil filter, get one of these. Of the dozen or so oil filter wrenches I've accumulated in 50 years this one never fails to easily remove stubborn filters.

I changed my first oil at 200 miles - glad I did. it was full of metal sparking particles. Main reason why i change is that I don't like the fact that ford is putting small oil filter and semi-synthetic oil blend vs. full synthetic oil and full size filter. After initial oil change sequential oil change will be done every 5-6k miles or 100 hours of engine operation. (oil used: Pennzoil Platinum 0-w20 with one 3/4 quarter of 5-w30 Engine works more smoother and much quitter) Cost $35. time 30 min.

Do you think there may be a reason the engineers, aside from cost, thought a different oil and filter was better for the engine, during the initial run in?

On my first oil change at 2100 miles I saw no sparkles and no fuel smell. Dumping your factory oil fill so soon, IMO was wasting the benefits of the MOLY rich factory fill. IMO YMMV

My thoughts: the last thing any manufacturer wants is a reputation/PR disaster for early engine failures. So if there was a valid reason to change the oil at 500 or 1000 miles, every manufacturer would suggest or even demand it. If Ford is confident/comfortable suggesting 10K miles, that's enough for me.

I have a Maverick Hybrid, and I did the first oil change at about 2,800 miles. I'll do the next one around 8,000, then every 5-6k after that. Yes, I know modern synthetics can go longer before changing, but to me it's cheap insurance. I've never had an oil related issue, and I drive my cars until the wheels fall off (well, in Michigan, it's usually the rust or the potholes that eventually takes 'em out). The added benefit is that each time I get under my car for the oil change, I really check out the underside to look for anything that may be turning into an issue. That's saved me some costly repairs over the years.

After reading this and other threads, I split the difference and did it when the display said 50% oil life, which was at 6000 miles. Oil looked great, just a little darker than honey, with no hint of black or fuel smell. Going forward I'll start looking to change it at 80%, and make sure to do it by 90%.
