At my local Walmart, the Mobil 1 section is as big as all the other sections combined. Lately it seems like they're always sold out, not sure why. This is the most I've seen in a month. Also I checked and they have the Penn Platinum but I did not see Platinum Plus.

Platinum Ultra is hard to get

Platinum is great as well

The curveball here is what kind of driving you do. I do a lot of stop and go "Dense suburban" type driving. AFAIK this is actually really tough on your engine and is sometimes classified as heavy use. Hence I make 3k oil changes the goal and try not to go over 5k.

One thing I learned the hard way is to check the oil level frequently. My mazda never had a problem then one time it came up low. Still no idea why it decided to use oil but it hasn't done it since. Took two quarts and I took it for an oil change as soon as I could.
Nobody said you can't do it sooner but if you're doing a lot of stop-and-go and a lot of short tripping we all know that you should be doing it sooner

Penzoil Platinum Ultra Offers Better protection and seems to be a much better oil

But mobil is good to
But Pennzoil is not Ford WSS-M2C961-A1 approved, would you still use it ? Castrol edge any better (it is ford approved ) ?

In the manual Ford asked me to drive gently for the first 1,000 miles and I’m doing just that. I’m using eco mode, slow acceleration, and cruise control to keep it under 65-70mph with low revs. Now that I’m in the 760 mile range, I’m having a little more fun, but still keeping it below 70mph and avoiding hard acceleration.

I might change the oil early at 2,000 miles.

Putting on a little over 800 miles this weekend while on a road trip. I'm not push it past 75 mph while the engine continues to break in (currently at 230 miles). It will be about an 80-20 split of highway and city driving. Do you guys think I should get an oil change next week since I will be a bit over 1k miles or should I wait until I do more City driving for break in?

Better to just follow the manual, I am interested to read how a Hybrid engine warms up in real cold climates if it starts out in battery mode.
I own a Fusion energi and I figured this out in my instance. When I first get in the car, my range is approximately 18-21 mi. If my journey will take me further than that I will turn the key on and push the gas peddle all the way down to the floor, this activates the gas motor and it will run for about 30-60 seconds. That makes me feel better about the cold engine start once I am driving.

I understand that road miles are much easier on an engine than city miles, so you should be good. Personally, I would change the oil now and at 3k miles, change again. Reason, turbos need lubrication and oil is inexpensive in comparison. Safe travels.

Thanks! Engine got its break-in workout today, covered 430 miles (you NJ/NY drivers are fast). Fantastic ride and commanded the road well. ill schedule the oil change when I return in a few days from the trip, it is cheap insurance and I want to get the break in additives out!

I assume that the tires are aired up in Mexico. My Maverick is tentatively scheduled to arrive in Wisconsin by December 25. The first thing that I will do is replace the Mexican air with Wisconsin winter air.

There's this thing called the Owner's Manual. However, this one says nothing about break-in. The only thing I did different is do my first oil change at 5k instead of the recommended 10k. Mobil 1 EP full syn.

This Video contains a lot of valuable details on not just engine break-in but break-in oil changes, filling your gas tank, tire pressure and day of delivery checks.

It is for Toyota vehicles but the speaker is a Master Diagnostic Technician and has very good advice in how to get your vehicle to last many many years and hundreds of thousands of miles.

Summing up the Break-in advice:

Avoid Sudden Stops the first 200 miles

Engine Break-in advice for the first 1000 miles:

Avoid Hard Acceleration
Avoid Driving in Low Gears for a very long time
Avoid Driving at Excessive High Speeds
Avoid long Trips at a Steady Engine Speed
Do Not Tow for first 500 miles

First oil change should happen after the 1000 mile break-in period.

Since I plan to keep my Maverick for as long as my previous Ford 1998 Ranger that I had for 16 years I plan to follow the above advice.
Above statement says "avoid driving at excessive high speeds"

I have to pick it up at dealer about 50 miles away from home. Was going to take the expressway home. Otherwise it will take about 2 hours to get home in stop and go traffic.

Therefore the question is. What is the meaning of "excessive high speeds? Would driving 50 miles at 60 miles an hour be high speeds on the expressway? Thank you
