At 17,000 miles my coolant level is near the min mark. Thinking about adding some more but unsure whether I should stick with ford oem or generic Walmart or advanced auto type coolant. What do you use?

Whichever coolant you use, make sure it's in the Ford Spec in the manual. Just read mine, it's WSS-M97B57-A2

Kip, I had the same question. I wanted some on hand in case I had to add some later. After doing some research I decided to stick with what Ford recommended. The Ford Yellow anti-freeze for 2019+ models.

It sounds like the "universal" stuff, at minumum, without a complete flush it will not allow for the extended drain intervals Ford recommends, even if it will mix with all antifreeze type out there.

The correct Ford anti-freeze is harder to find than the universal stuff, so not a bad idea to have some extra on hand when it does go low. I did find it at Auto Zone. Walmart didn't have it, nor did our Napa.

Good luck.

Unfortunatley, I don't have a part number. Here's what I bought, and it meets Ford's requirements.

Was $19 plus tax for one gallon.

I always go buy from the dealership and flush it myself. Never had an issue.

To add to all the above: The general reason to use only factory spec as opposed to generic coolant IN ANY VEHICLE has to do with the chemistry. Factory spec coolant is designed for the various metals, water pump bearings and gasket materials in the ICE of any make of vehicle. Without the proper coolant, the various metals start a proces of electrolysis - aka corrosion. I don't think brand makes a difference as long as the specs match what the mfg recommends. The 3 common coolant colors - Green, Yellow, Red, all represent different chemistry for different combinations of metals.

The reason to drain old/add new is that the chemicals loose their preventive properties over time. Since I have an aversion to mechanics and dealers, I drain what I easily can from the radiator, add new coolant to the resevoir, top off, dispose of the hazardous waste properly, and do it again in about a year. That keeps enough "good" coolant in the system so I don't ever need a flush.

The factory coolant is supposed to last quite a long time. I like the concentrated version of Ford's Yellow coolant because its more compact to store in my garage. You need to use distilled or deionized water with this because the minerals in tap water can react with the additives. You can get this stuff via mail order from Rock Auto.

Yellow ,ford approved.
Change at 200,000 miles or 10 years and every 100,000 or 5 years thereafter.

At Mercedes dealer, we topped off with distilled water in the service lane. Never get it wrong that way. The % change from 50/50 is minimal.
Came here to say this also.
Its a few ounces, on a nearly-new vehicle.
1) Add some distilled water and call it day. No need to purchase matching coolant.
or
2) Have it topped off by dealer service.

Just add a pint of distilled water. The change in coolant percentage is negligible. As an aside, why are you losing coolant? Is there a small leak somewhere?
