I didn't realize this was an all-new version of the 2.0L Ecoboost. I figured it was an updated version and not a full redesign. However, when I saw the first reviews of the refreshed Maverick, I did notice the redesigned intake charge with the air filter box on top of the engine which then routes to the intake tube down to the bottom of the engine where the front bumper is. That should've been a dead giveaway for me. Now I know. I wonder how reliable these are gonna be. Only time will tell at this rate.

The same version of the engine has been on sale and used around the world (produced in China for their and other markets) since 2022. While it's new to the Maverick, it's been on the ground for three years.

Gotcha. Thank you for both the response and the video. It was very informative.

If they could just get rid of E85 ethanol gasoline and go with clear gas (ethanol free), they wouldn't have to do all this. For a tiny amount of CO2 reduction (CO2 is not a harmful gas) you lose around 25% MPG that you would see with clear gas. There is no reason we should be using corn and sugar cane to make vehicle fuel when the U.S. has one of the largest reserves of oil in the ground ready to be tapped.
It's about octane. My 1,000HP mustang loves E85. It's basically cheap race fuel.

Thanks for the informative video Shay. The selling dealer knew none of these details when I purchased the XL in March. I had been gleaning much of this info online and by inspecting my own vehicle after delivery. This is an excellent little vehicle that does car AND truck things!

Sam, thanks for sharing that information. (We've had it reported that Ford has revised the HP numbers and it remains at 250 even after Job3 when the particulate filter is added, so it will be interesting to find out.) I didn't realize it was totally new... I honestly thought it was just a revised head and intake. Interesting. Your video taught me a great deal.

After all this time waiting for the OEM's to fix the DI engines with a port injector to clean the intake they go and add more complexity and problems with a GPF. I am going to call it and say the GPF will the the axe handle they use to beat people into EVs with.

Fortunately, there are a few gas stations in counties surrounding Richmond, VA that do sell non-ethanol gas. One oil company offers both 87 & 93 octane, and a Wawa sells 89 octane. My Maverick EcoBoost generally gets about 4 mpg better with the non-ethanol fuel. The price fluctuates, but in general it runs about $.20 more than the equivalent ethanol blend.

Where did you see that? Because it most definitely is.
I thought I read inside of this thread even, that there’s no port injection in the new 2.0, but I’m glad to hear otherwise. I would consider getting a new 2.0 for this reason, after the terrible experiences I’ve had with GDI engines

So all these improvements and it puts out less hp.
That's caused by the particulate filter that was added in the exhaust, not the engine.

The 2025 version of the engine for the Canadian market still makes 250 HP.
It's still the same HP in the USA as the 22-24 2.0 EB's in the Maverick he mentioned it towards the end of the Video the OP Posted.

Honestly 2-3 years isn't nearly enough time to flush out any design flaws.

Rule #23 of life: never, EVER, buy the A model of anything. You just never know what sort of fund things this redesign is hiding 5-10 years down the road.

One nice thing with the hybrid - that 2.5l duratec has been around for like 15 years.
