I hear many folks gush over the sound of the EB turbo - but I’m not sure I hear it. Not complaining, just curious as to what they are hearing.

Are they hearing the turbo spooling up during acceleration?
When lifting off the throttle - the excess pressure routes back to the turbo inlet - which I understand is quiet. Not the whoosh of a blow off to atmosphere.

But I’m thinking the turbo sound that folks are hearing is too high a frequency for my old ears to hear? I stop hearing above 9,000hz…

I’m with you ‘Chops’. I’ve had my Eco for a year now, floored it many times, and still can’t differentiate between a 4 bbl kicking in. Never heard the ‘ooh, sounds like a turbo’ at all! Then again, I could be going more ‘deef’. 🤔

I can hear the whine with the radio off but the BOV is muted so you don't get a whole lot of woosh. I think the engine revving sound a lot better compared to the hybrid though.

I never heard the wooosh whatsoever, and yes like once in a blue moon I might hit it a bit, but still no wooosh.

Not a fan of the weed Wacker sound of the engine neither.

It's there, around 3000rpm or so. I drove the hybrid back to back with the Ecoboost and the hybrid sounds like it's got a dead cylinder when accelerating - the Ecoboost sounds fine. The custome exhaust make it sound better but I don't think I could live with the drone constantly.

Ha! Love it. Weed whacker, that’s new, always thought it was sewing machine. 😂

I wish my weed wacker sounded like the Ecoboost.

Yes, hurts the ears on me too and then disappears around 9000! Turbo’s don’t emit that high of a frequency do they?
Our hearing cuts off at 9000hz - but there are folks on the forum who can hear double that level.

If the turbo sound they speak of is a low rumble - we would hear it too. “Oh, that’s the turbo sound you speak of”.

But if the sound is a high pitched whine (above 9000hz) - that would explain why we can’t hear it:)

Never drove the older version of the 2.0, but the 2025 version seems pretty quiet to me overall. At certain RPMs during acceleration I can hear the turbo. To me it sounds like ssssssssssssss lol. Best way I can describe it.

Man, I could hear something up to about 16,000. I've never heard my turbo, but I pretty much always have the radio on, and I've never actually floored it.

Yes turbos make a high-pitched whine which OPs like me can't hear any more. There is also a blow-off sound that turbos used to make that some people are nostalgic for and so they do weird things to theirs to make to make it do that now. I'll note that I can still hear the turbo spool up on a big rig engine.

The Klipsch Heresy speakers I bought in my 20’s are wasted in me now. Hearing high notes diminishes as you age:)

Never floored ? Do it have less than 1k miles ? I mean I could go many many months without flooring it, but I try to do it once or twice a year to clean the fuel injection system. ;)

Thank you much - you confirm my suspicions!
