In my 2005 Escape Hybrid it would not allow you to use certain features while the vehicle was in motion. After a while I reached under the dash; cut the VSS wire and spliced in a switch.

VSS: Vehicle Speed Sensor

Switch off: all features available but GPS moving maps would not move. This was a "feature" to keep your moving maps moving in tunnels, and city scapes with poor GPS sky view.
So I couldn't cut the wire and leave it cut. The switch was the solution.

May have to do this in the Maverick.
There was at least one thread way back about this issue, you may want to see if you can find it and see how they resolved it, I can’t recall.

Wait a second does this imply that the brakes on a Maverick are fly by wire? Isn't the parking brake also fly by wire? What happens if you lose electrical power can you just not stop?

Don't know yet. The software part number is exactly the same from first TSB to second TSB. Whether it's an updated version of the same part number is unknown by me.

Other people on the forum here have said they had the second one done and it solved the problem when the first one had not. The service writer didn't know, so in my case I wait until it gets done to see.

I have it in also for the airbag recall and the EGR TSB, so I expect I don't get it back for a day or two.
Had the air bags and TSB programming update done in the same visit.

3 days / 30 miles later....

My brakes are still grabby.
Those who said it's "70% reduced" are either lucky or being generous.

I'd say my problem is still 70% as strong of a grab, right at the point Hydraulic comes on. 😖

Too early / too few miles to say it did nothing. It probably helped some.

I recommend having the software updated if you are there for other reasons. But not worth a special trip just for this, unless you are retired and have lots of time. Don't miss work or anything for this slight improvement.

Dropped my XL hybrid off for them to check a list of fairly common issues I am experiencing. Unfortunately because it is 2023 they said yes they could recreate the grabby brakes, but I am already on the latest TSB so there is nothing they can do. I suggested they flash the system and re-run the latest TSB as it heard it can learn it’s way back to having the issue, but they said they are not allowed. Oh well.

Hopefully get my truck back tomorrow, they are locating a dash rattle now. They weren’t interested in hearing what I learned on here, fair enough I’m just some guy.

I'm in the same boat. 2023 with grabby brakes, so no fix. And now my dash/windshield started rattling, once again probably no fix. Ridiculous.

Do you have the rough idle that feels like it wants to lurch forward at your first stop? Lol. Overall the consistency of these issues bring me comfort .

Yup. Along with the sync system that freezes weekly?

Misery loves company. 🤣

Dropped mine off this morning for the new TSB also.
Did your dealer give you push back because he couldn't reproduce or there were no CEL codes stored in the system? When I have experienced the grabby brake issue, I have never seen a check engine light result.

There's no check engine. They should just do it, maybe it's a sign your dealership is crappy because mine just did it

Here’s another update. I notice that in wet condition like rain slippery mode seems to get a little more grabby than Normal or Eco mode. The brakes feel a little dragged or delayed before engaging. But not as bad as before the update.

I've gotten so fed up with this issue that I got rid of mine - the brakes on my new Hybrid SUV work just like they should!

I had mine done on a normal service, and it cleared things up for me. I've put a couple thousand miles on since then and still good. I will say, i also drive almost all the time with the auto brake on and i get a lot of the sudden grab with that. I drive most of the time solo and i'd rather have the auto brake but if i've got passengers i'll switch it off for smoother experience.

Hi All - Is the brake update available through the normal dash software updates or does the vehicle need to be taken to dealer for this?
