What transmission is in the 2024 2.5 Maverick Hybrid?
Any problems so far?
Thanks

I think it's the same one I have in the 2023 hybrid-

If so, it's an eCVT...

I'm an old school hater of CVT tranny's, but the eCVT is a different animal, and surprisingly, my favorite part of the truck so far!!!

An eCVT is typically the most rugged type of transmission available. I think I have only seen 1 or 2 reports here on the forum of the eCVT having to be replaced. The number 1 issue that has been reported over the last 2 years is the "shudder" during the hand-off between ICE and electric. There have been several "software updates" to fix this. However, since this typically happens after 5k (or 15k) miles, there is definitely something mechanical involved. Only time will tell if the gears in the eCVT need to be replaced sooner than anticipated.

If you want more info on how an eCVT works, just go to Youtube. There are several in-depth videos that teach you how everything goes together.

It's going to be essentially the same eCVT that the 22 and 23 models have in them. Maybe with a minor tweak here or there to adjust for something they've learned, but who knows.

I should add that this is widely considered to be one of the more durable components in the vehicle overall--there's no real "shifting" going on at any point. Basically you have a set of planetary gears with an inner and outer section which can be spun at varying ratios in comparison to eachother, thereby emulating gear ratio effects. There's two electric motors attached, one is the traction motor (for powering the drivetrain when it's running electric or adding onto the standard engines output); the other motor is the starter/generator. This unit acts as the starter and alternator in one unit, and then helps create the variations between the outer and inner gearset speeds.

That's my really basic understanding from all the youtube videos I've watched on it. Go check some of them out--it's a really cool piece of tech in my opinion. Here's a great one I watched, though it could be a little dry for some peoples taste, I thought it was an excellent visualization of the system:

I started to notice the shudder about a month ago. I'll be getting my first oil change next month and I will ask them about the TSBs for the engine shudder, grabby brakes and the surge when the vehicle is stopped, and the engine is cold.

There are only a few bearings in the ecvt transaxle that are serviceable. Essentially consider it a throwaway (per John Kelly of Weber State University). (??? Looks like some should be but maybe miniscule wearing will introduce timing issues for the 3phase motors within it??? When a replacement is introduced).

Technically speaking, it is the Ford HF45. They build them in Michigan!

Smooth and quiet planetary gearset.
